Any recorder that will record phone conversations?

Hello,

I have been searching for an app that will let me record the conversations I have while using my phone. I am currently in a custody battle with my ex, who is a notoriously avid lier. Conversations have been limited to email/text because of this, and I would like to feel secure that I still have my back covered with these phone calls. Thanks.
 
Unfortunately that is illegal in most Jurisdictions (with special provisions to allow it). However, if you were to run the sound output through a computer, you could use any sound recording program to record the conversation.

as far as i know, it is NOT illegal in the US if the person on the other end somewhat knows it is being recorded. A simple BEEP before or during the conversation is enough to "tell" the person that you are recording them. you dont have to ACTUALLY tell them.
 
I used to have an old mortorola flip phone that just had a little button on the side that you could hold in, and it would record conversations. so I'm inclined to believe it's not illegal, as that feature probably wouldn't have made it on the phone at all. I just think it's such a grey area that it could be argued one way or the other.

having said that, I'm even willing to jailbreak my phone to record these conversations, it's a pretty important issue. however, not until I know that the app will work. know of any others? Thanks again.
 
AFAIK, it's legal as long as the other party knows that you are recording the conversation. Also, I believe every X seconds, there must be a beep to remind the person that the call is being recorded.

BTW, I used to do this with business dealings all the time. It was easier than trying to keep notes during calls. Afterwards, I could make my notes as appropriate. Very handy.

Just took a look at the app store. Nothing popped out at me that let's you record a phone call.

Be sure to check your local laws to make sure that what you are doing is legal and that you meet any prerequisites for it to be considered legal.

Then again, it's late so I might have missed it.
 
It depends on the state. Some states are one-party notification states, while others have two-party notification requirements.

That said, my Treo had the one button record as well, so I believe it's up to the individual doing the recording to make sure they are following applicable local laws. :)

And I agree, I'd like that app as well.
 
I don't think it's possible from the app store. I don't think there is one for jailbroken phones at the moment either.

You could get an adaptor from radio shack or something to convert the headphone mic thing into two 1/8" jacks. Put them into your microphone and speaker jacks on your computer (Headphone to Line-in and Mic to Speaker) :D And then you could set your computer to record all system mixer sounds. Test it out with calling someone you know first to make sure you have the volume levels appropriate. Then record away!!! :D Oh, you'll also need to have a computer microphone that will go to your computer's Mic jack.

SpoofApp3g was just released for Jailbroken phones on Cydia that now has a voice changer, call recording and caller ID spoofing. :D Only works in USA and Canada.

The legality depends on what state you're in. I know California is a two party state, which means that both parties have to be aware of the recording. New York is a one party state, which means you can record the conversation without notifying the other party. Regardless of what state you're in, it's legal as long as you state that you're recording the call at the beginning.

As a former reporter, I know in Florida it's also illegal. In a lot of states, only one party has to know though.

I'm sorely tempted to jailbreak my new iphone 3g. But correct me if I'm wrong, do I need to downgrade to v2.0 of the software?

Which site? If it's the tutorial site, that doesn't matter. It'd just mean it's an old tutorial.
 
way to resurrect a 2 year old thread, I'm pretty sure the OP has already found out if it is legal or not where he lives.
