Are there any rumors for ATV v.3, like when it might come out and what sorts of features it might have? I haven't been able to find anything.

The ATV 2 was only launched last september, and I don't think the Apple TV is going to be on a yearly cycle for hardware updates (it was 3 years between ATV1 and ATV2), so we are unlikely to get an ATV3 for some time.

There just isn't a pressing need to update the hardware. I know people are going to mention 1080p but thats probably a limitation of the wireless networking and general broadband speeds rather than the hardware itself.

But the Apple TV2 has been way more succesful so maybe summer?
Also 1080p out on ipad 2 might mean 1080p is comming to itunes.

I've not heard any rumours, but IF Apple included 1080p output and DTS codecs then I would buy another AppleTV without question.

Just because the device does 1080p and DTS doesn't mean that Apple needs to distribute content that includes this, I mean, my car will seat 5 people, but I don't take 5 people everywhere I go!

One of the best things about Apple moving the ATV to using iOS is they seem to plan to keep it updated and on the same level as all the other iOS devices. Due to the benefits of economies of scale, the Apple TV will probably keep getting identical internal hardware to the other iOS lines and in a way it is being subsidized by the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad sales.

So seeing that the new iPad was just updated with the A5 processor that can handle 1080p, I'm assuming Apple will update the ATV with the 1080p capable A5 processor at the September iPod event.
