I have searched Digidesigns web site high and low and NO there is not one mention of Pro Tools for Mac OS X. Surely they are working on something? This is the leading platform for Post film and music houses. Can anyone confirm that they are at least working on a new release for OS X?

Search the Digidesign User Conference for questions on this...

There's no definate date but it was hinted at being around spring/fall time by one of the Digidesign support staff on the Protools LE forum.

I can't imagine we've been waiting 3 or 4 years for Dual CPU and Altivec support only for them to bring out an OS 9 version with those features. I think an OS X version of protools will be amazing when it does come out. I think they might be waiting for a newer version of OS X with more features of Core Audio and Core Midi enabled. I read the manual for Unity Session and it says there's no support for patch names yet in OS X's implementation of OMS (Core Midi), I imagine there's more issues than this to resolve with protools, it was the first decent DAW on any platform so I bet it's got a hell of a lot of old code that needs rewriting from scratch to work with OS X.

It would be nice to have a sudden surge of high end audio software released for OS X after MWNY wouldn't it :)

I think the graphics pros are just about catered for in OS X now, I think it will be our turn soon enough.

It will be a long time, until your plug-ins

will be made for OS X.The Vst Plugs from Native-Instruments for example will be ready at the end of 2003.Do not know how it will be with RTAS and TDM,though.

It could with us in a matter of weeks...

We have actually stated numerous times on the DUC that the expected time frame is sometime in May, and so far we are doing very well at keeping on schedule. It would not surprise me at all to see some last minute things come up that would cause it to slip an extra week or two, but that is always the nature with software development. It's not finished until it is finished. We've all seen companies "duck ship" software before, just to get it out the door regardless of whether it should be, and I think most people would agree that Digi is definitely not one of those companies.

We're glad that users are excited about this release. There will be quite a bit to be excited about in just a few weeks.

Taken from this thread on the Digidesign User Conference.

It does sound like there's going to be both OS X and Windows XP releases sometime in may.

Digiworld starts on may 14th, a very interesting date too, seeing as the rack mount G4s come up on that date too. As apple are usually involved in the Digiworld events I think it would be a perfect time to release or anounce protools for OS X.

Now if I can just afford a shinny new G4 with tons of RAM to run it on, I can actually finish a session without multiple submixes like I do on my beige G3 with Protools LE at present.
