Sure, but the fact that you need a work around just to access the full Android app ecosystem only goes to show that they are intended mainly to be e-readers, basic media devices, and vehicles to sell more Amazon products rather than full fledged tablets like an iPad.

I’m not knocking the Fire Tablets though. They’re fine for what they are, and VERY modestly priced compared to even the cheapest iPads.
Hard to ask for much more from a tablet that’s at such a cheap price point though

There’s a few hidden cheap gems out there though. In Canada atleast they were always giving away the LG g pads for data promos that people turn around and sell off for cheap. I have two LG g pad III tablets at home for the kids, both had for around $100 New off craigslist. 1080p IPS laminated display, snapdragon 617 octacore, 2gb of ram, expandable storage, LTE, IR Blaster, even a full size USB port on the top to transfer files to a flash drive.

For what they are, they are great, plays their mine craft and other kid games great and store a ton of shows and movies on them. Does it compare to my iPad for performance and app support? No, iPad still runs circle around it. But I could have also bought 4 of them for the price of this thing lol.

I still appreciate apple selling a cheaper iPad and still feel the price is fair for the performance and features it comes with, still not cheap enough to buy for my kids though lol

I don’t see Apple updating the iPad any time soon, especially not after the price increase of the Pros. They need to keep the power/features gap wide enough to justify the prices. Also, compared to Android tablets the base iPad is far superior in almost every way so Apple doesn’t feel any pressure.

So true, I bought as the Brits like to say "an iPad as cheap as chips" which cost me $249 for a 2018 iPad. If Kuo's prediction comes true and Apple does or were to release a new iPad Mini, I can envision seeing Apple not updating the budget iPad next year because if they did, it would get an A11 which would make it really tempting to not even consider an iPP since you can now use a pencil with the current budget iPad's. I was wanting a little more RAM headroom with iPP but I was looking at a $550 difference to go from 2GB to 4GB.

Didn’t stop them from updated it back to back for this year though. So still a good chance they will because there is still big consumer base for this model

I think if they do increase the ram, it would be to 3gb on the A11 chip like it was on the 8 plus. Then it keeps it less than the pro models as well but still a welcomed upgrade from the 6th gen

I will wait. It just annoys me having no idea wether I’ll be waiting for nothing.

If I was wanting an IPhone I know 100% there will be a new one in September.

But the iPads have been much more random. There was no update for ages after the Air 2. The iPad mini releases have been random too. No update for that for a while.

So it’s annoying knowing I could wait three months and have nothing appear. Maybe this year they’ll skip the 9.7” and just update the mini etc.
Wtf? People don’t upgrade iPads yearly like iPhone, i doubt the 9.7 will get refreshed, the mini and air are dead.

This is the bit I hate. The battery on my iPad 2017 isn't great. If I knew for sure they wouldn't be releasing a decent upgrade this year I'd just get the battery replaced and keep it another year. But if they are then I'll just deal with it till March and upgrade.
Hopefully you battery slowly die....My mini 4 is down to 3900 mAh out of 5018mAh which is about 78%....with 219 cycle count..... To be Honest, battery life is not that great lately...Its so bad that when it hits 20% it will shut down on its own...and when it reboot it shows zero %. Thinking about waiting to see if there is a new mini if not then i will get a new battery.

Once again... they updated the 9.7 back to back.. 2017 5th gen, 2018 6th gen
True but the iPad Pro 9.7 (A9X, 2GB) was already discontinued by the time the 6th gen iPad (A10, 2GB) was released.

The continued existence of the iPad Pro 10.5 (A10X, 4GB) at its original $649 price point does not bode well for a 9.7" iPad update.
