My friend was in line to get a new computer and I helped convince him switching to a mac was the right thing, after the whole buy a macbook, get an iPod for free rebate thing. So he does it.

But then informs me today, that he thought Apple would send him something on the rebate, and now it appears past the time he can get the rebate (it has to be within 30 days of purchase or something). so he's trying to get apple to honor the rebate still.

anyone had success doing this? i feel bad for him, but it is plain as day on the web site about how to get the rebate.

I would doubt it as usually companies can afford to do rebates because of limitations and mistakes people make. However, I would try getting the rebate form, see who the contact is for it (phone #, email, ?) and just see. Also, try more than once with that contact as you never know what someone will do. When you approach them state the story you gave us- they are switching and loves the mac, but go so caught up in the new Mac Book failed to realize it had to be done in 30 days and required a separate form to be filled out, etc. State the case truthfully and sincerely and you will have better luck- Don't be afraid to push a little if they don't honor it, but always do it respectfully and ask nicely to talk to a supervisor to see if they can bend the rules just this once. I have had good luck with this approach with "bending" company policies- but it often takes a couple of calls to get the right kind of person that will do something.

good luck

I actually sent mine in after the 30 day cut off (only a day or two late) and I was lucky enough to receive the rebate.
So have him send it in and try anyways.

Apple's rebates are handled by a third party who generally sticks to the rules.

If you missed the rebate return date, you may be out of luck, but call or write Apple
Customer Relations and they may work something out for you.

I missed the rebate " if received by date" by 2 days and they gave me a $100.00
credit at the Apple Store online.
