Waiting to upgrade to LTE from my Series 2 Ceramic edition, but haven't seen any rumors on the edition model. Will the Ceramic be continued as the edition model in Series 4? Maybe back to 18K gold :)

I think they’ll stick with ceramic or perhaps a new material, but not gold. $1,299 is a lot more reasonable than $10,000 for a device like this. They discontinued the gold for a reason and I doubt anything in their analysis has changed in the last few years.

No rumors regarding what casing options will be offered for Series 4. And the 18 karat gold Apple Watch is a thing of the past, Apple tried that and it failed miserably as nothing more than a marketing piece when it first launched.

The gold was definitely just a marketing tool given away to celebrities to showcase and only actually purchased by a small number of people.

FYI-Apple Store US online shows NO S3 white ceramic watches available in 38mm. Plenty 42mm white ones apparently as I could have one of those delivered tomorrow.

That may be because the new model is on its way. The bands tend to become short in supply when apple gear up for a new range. We will know in just over three weeks :)

I think the shortages of bands and Apple Watch is a clear and definite sign that a Series 4 is imminent. I think Apple might have a surprise for us this year possibly with the casing options, but its still somewhat difficult to say exactly what they have planned.

I’m looking to upgrade my S2 this fall and I’m on the fence whether to go for steel again or ceramic. While ceramic is an awesome material, steel has a lot of charm as well and the number of straps that fit so well with steel is immense. Ceramic doesn’t really get any love with leather or bracelets.

My expectation is that they're going to eliminate the Ceramic models from the line up, presumably because they didn't sell very well. If so, this will be incredibly disappointing as I was looking forward to a ceramic S4!

I don't think they'll drop GPS-only. They're trying to onboard more people into the watch ecosystem, and the way to do that isn't to eliminate the cheapest model, nor does it seem very Apple-like to offer Cellular connectivity "for free", a la iPad.

I was actually considering myself upgrading to the ceramic, but what’s holding me back is the expensive price tag for a tech device, when I almost think the stainless steel was the more suitable option because I like the weight of the stainless and shine better. I don’t know that I can justify the price tag of ceramic just because of the ‘Ceramic’ casing. As another member alluded to below your post, the ceramic model might be in jeopardy this year likely due to sales because of the high price tag. Obviously a large portion of Apples customers venture onto the aluminum model, and even the stainless model is a steep increase over the sport model Apple Watch.

To be honest, I was thinking of downgrading from the ceramic to get the SS as it fits my work attire more lol Don't get me wrong, I love the thing, but the SS just looks better with a nice brown leather band to match my shoes.

That’s why like the stainless model, the bands are all virtually compatible and and the weight from the stainless somehow makes me think it justifies the price tag more, because it feels more premium. It must be psychological factor.

I'm not sure of the benefits of a ceramic case on a disposable product like the Apple Watch. It does look good but it's main benefit is high resistance to scratching. I've got a Junghans ceramic watch which still looks like new after 20 years of use but I would find it hard to justify the high purchase price of the Apple Watch knowing the product will be obsolete in a few years time.

I suppose it isn't an issue if you've got loads of spare cash to burn but I would stick with the stainless steel, which is a nice step up in quality from the aluminium.

I don’t have experience with ceramic watches, but I do know the durability with Ceramic in general is very good. If it was a really nice mechanical watch with ceramic, I likely would opt for it being it will outlast any smart watch. But being the Ceramic watch is a ‘tech device’ that sees limited support, I don’t know that I can justify the price tag for the ceramic, when the stainless model would be more to my liking, and if I was concerned with the scratch resistance, then I would opt for the black stainless with the diamond like carbon coating, assuming Apple offers that again this year.

That's the reason I purchased the ceramic, the durability and being able to wear just once watch to both work and the gym. I used to have a SS and Sport in Series 2, sold both and got the ceramic Series 3.

Lets not jump to conclusions about the demise of Ceramic just yet.
This is an interesting article suggesting that its the way Apple defines the product codes. Read and enjoy

I don’t have much trust in what Forbes reports regardless, but my thoughts are that even if the ceramic Model does exist for the Series 4, its just largely isn’t going to be that popular strictly because of the exorbitant price point. Consumers want a smart watch, but they want it mostly at an affordable price with the aluminum watch being the most popular. If the Ceramic watch in fact is not offer for this year’s Series 4, I really wouldn’t be that surprised.

I have a series 2 Caramic and had both black and raw stainless, as well as aluminum in all previous watches back to series 0. Sometimes multiple versions I switched between.
One thing to consider for the ceramic is AppleCare+ lasts 3 years unlike all other models so despite its high cost its EXTREMELY durable, looks great, and has a bumper to bumper for 3 years. We spend nearly as much on the phone and then get “new shiny” thing a year later for another grand. A watch like the series 2 is perfectly credible to keep for 2-3 years making its price rage a little more palatable. It will look the same after the 3rd year as it did out of the box. Can’t be said for any other model.
