I am well aware of what's hot in terms of online multiplayers, and I have been in to but never really got in to single-player games.

I am looking for single-player games that are supported by Windows 7, preferably RPG-type games with swords and the like. I wouldn't mind some solid FPS single players as well. I would also prefer recommendations to somewhat old games, as my NVIDIA 320M cannot hold up too well to games like Crysis, so please do not suggest anything too graphic intensive. I'm not really keen on having games kept by downloads, so I would prefer boxed games that install with a DVD. I realize that is a bit of clash in saying that I want somewhat old games to install by DVD and that are supported by Windows 7, as they wouldn't really be sold as such anymore or at all in the first place, at least not in retail, but I'm sure there are exceptions that I am very much willing to hear.

As far as what I have now, the only real single-player that I have is Prototype (boss game) and that's really it. I heard Oblivion is very good and would probably be a top choice.

Any suggestions? Thanks to all who take the time to post.

Yes oblivion is definetly a very good one. That will keep you occupied for literally hundreds of hours. However, if you prefer older games, check out star wars Kights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) and KOTOR 2. they were both very good RPG games.

Also at the top of my list for you would be Mass Effect 1 & 2. Both games are phenomenal. They combine 3rd person shooter with RPG elements to form a near perfect gameplay experience and engrossing story line. I love these games!

Also since you are considering Oblivion you might want to check out Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Another recommendation for Knights of the Old Republic. Aspyr actually updated the Mac version on the App Store very recently and it runs very reliably. Given how inexpensive it is, it's worth the expense... though you can get it cheaper on Steam for the PC if you'd rather run it under Windows.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, I am looking at the titles you posted and am also fishing for more considerations constantly.

Any other recommendations would be much appreciated.

I'll state a third for Knights of the Old Republic (both 1 and 2). I played them on Xbox when both were new and they are both fantastic games, particularly if you're a fan of both RPGs and Star Wars.

While not FPS strictly speaking, I'd highly recommend both Portal and Portal 2, a couple of the most fun games I've ever played.

Thanks a lot for further suggestions. : )

As far as KOTOR, will I still enjoy it if I don't follow Star Wars, do you think? I'm not really sure if I would if I don't know much about it.

I hated the movies, and a lot of the Star Wars games, but loved KOTOR.

RPGs with swords and magic:
The Dragon Age series is also good. I'd get Dragon Age Origins Ultimate edition (contains all add-ons) which can be had pretty cheap now that Dragon Age 2 is out. (Origins is still the best game). Beware Dragon Age:Awakening is a an add-on to Dragon Age:Origins!

There are also Risen (funny thats your name too) and Gothic Series (1 and 2 is a bit old but fun, Gothic 4 Arcania won't run on your machine and is a boring game, so Gothic 3 is your best bet)

For shooter RPGs there are Borderlands and Fallout New Vegas. Fallout 3 is not supported by windows 7, but with some tweaking it will work.

The storyline is very self contained. In fact, the plot of both KOTOR games takes place hundreds (possibly thousands, I can't remember) of years before any of the films (and most other Star Wars games). It certainly helps to be a fan of that world, but I could see someone enjoying it even if they weren't.

Thanks to all who have posted recommendations.

My list to look in to: KOTOR, Portal, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout, and Witcher. I have heard positives about these titles in the past as well.

Other suggestions made were games that I either have (should have posted Borderlands) or have played before.

Thanks again everyone, and keep 'em comin'. : )
