I'm looking to buy a Nikon D50 or D70 camera in the next few days. Does anyone know of any sales going on the net, or good prices on refurbished ones?

Buy from a reputable dealer

It's just not worth it to deal with the hassle of bad customer service.

It's NOT what you ordered. It's refurbished. It's marked for another country (warranty won't be honored). Having to ship it back & forth. They don't return your calls. Their guarantee is a "guaranteed rip-off." They are rude to you when they do talk to you. You still don't have what you wanted, you're now angry, and you're wondering what is going to happen with your money. What? To save $100+? How much is your time worth? How much is fair payment to you for your agitation? Are you willing to gamble with getting an inferior product for your money? Are you willing to gamble with your money at all? To save a bit here & there?

I really like Samy's Camera as well as B&H Photo. Never had a problem with either.

I ordered a D70 from Samy's website on a Friday afternoon. I get a call on Saturday telling me that they don't have any more at that semi-blow-out price. They apologized that they didn't update their website when they sold out of them on Thursday. Although they can't honor the $100 rebate that Nikon was offering, they offer me a D70S at the original price they were offering for the D70. Although some people would argue that the D70 is a better camera, the D70S is the more expensive camera. I appreciate customer service like that. You pay more, but in the end, I feel you get more too.

I'd rather pay more to shop at a place like REI with their great return policy than pay less and deal with the bad customer service that comes with "great prices." If there was an REI style Walmart, I'd buy everything there... except horrible people would take advantage of the return policy and it would be changed...

I'm NOT rich... I just have better things to do with my time than deal with bad customer service... I have better places to spend my money in... places that I walk away happy from rather than pissed off because I feel cheated or ripped off in some way. Just my personal experience.

p.s.- I bought my daughter a swimsuit from K-mart so she could go swimming at a friend's house today. The people there left the anti-theft sensor on the suit rendering it unusable. When I returned it, they rolled their eyes apologized and provided an instant refund, no problem at all. Not every low-priced vendor is bad... but the ones on the internet can be especially nasty and vile.

Good luck on your purchase. You can save a bit on tax if you buy from out of state, but buy from a reputable source. Keeps them in business...

Its seems like alot of people really support buying for a reputable dealer. Wolf camera is the only mom and pop type dealers that sell cameras around here.

That's where I just picked up my Nikon D50 (last Friday). Seriously, their prices are still pretty competitive and I like the ability to be able to go in to the store anytime and test out different lenses before buying. Plus, they answer any questions I might ever have (unlike internet retailers).

Costco has unbeatable customer service. They'll take the camera back no questions asked. They have a D50 for $699 (or maybe it was $599) right now, the two lens kit.

I love my Nikon. I have nothing against Canon.

The Costcos in my area have the Canon Rebel in digital as well. Have you considered that one? Just another option...

The Costco kit contains different lenses in their kits that the regular Nikon kits.

Top Shelf online dealers include B&H Photo, Onecall (bought my D50 dual lens kit from them), Amazon. If looking for a refurb camera (which, as reported by MANY buyers are in "new" condition), Beach Camera is also highly respected.

You can pose the question (or search first :D ) on this forum of D50 users.

Excellent camera, enjoy!
