I've switched over to a S3, and have been enjoying every aspect of it for the past month. Except one area - push notifications. I've found workarounds for most everything except Twitter.

When using an iPhone, I always used TweetBot. And it was superior to anything I've found on Android. Any Twitter users have any success with an app that provides push notifications? The official app does "sometimes", but I've found it to be hit and miss. I'm just looking for notifications for DMs and being mentioned.

Thanks for any help.

I had this same problem when I had my s3. I think you have to sync twitter automatically in order to receive the push notifications of mentions and DM. That kind of sucks bc I don't want to sync my whole timeline all day. Anyone know of a better way?

I can't vouch for how well they work yet, but Tweetings apparently has push notifications. Seems like a decent client, though trying to replace Tweetbot on Android is like searching for the holy grail. :p

yes you have to have twitter sync on but i have mine set to ever 4 hours and push works fine. The 4 hour sync doesnt matter much because twitter auto refreshes upon opening. You can also try tweetings, and now echofon, both have pretty good push.

So if someone mentions you then you won't get a notification for 4 hours?

It seems like the official app always sends me notifications. Have not noticed it failing but i will keep my eye on that now.

I use Tweetcaster and for some reason, when i start a new day it wont push tweets by itself til i sync it first by opening the app w/ the icon. . Then after that it is good all day. Other than that, this app is the bomb! When i use Plume i dont have that problem and that one is nice one too. Those are the only two ive used regularly...well asside from the official...which i didnt like compared to those two.
Tried tweetbot a long time ago...didnt like it. Tried Tweetdeck as well. Many like that one, i didnt because i didnt need to share all my tweets with Facebook.

Havent tried Ubersocial and a few others.

NO the sync has nothing to do with push timing but it still needs to be enabled. Push coming instantly:cool:

I think the sync has to do with contact info and or updating the timeline... however the timeline refreshes when you open the app so thats a none issue.

Over the weekend, I went through various apps for the S3. The only one I could get to give me true push notifications on Twitter was the official app. Which I don't like. Echofon claims to have them, but it was always "behind".

So the good news is, I can get push notifications. Bad news, it's with a sub-par app. Maybe Tweetcaster (which I really like) or Echofon will update soon.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Ok great thanks! Ideally, push notifications would come instantly even with sync turned off so it didn't have to constantly pull all of the twitter data down.
