Just wondering if there is any UI lag with 10.11 using a 2012 MacBook Pro. Curious to see how well METAL has improved the UI performance on the first gen retina macbook pros.

I'm testing it and believe me, the UI performance is stunning! Changing spaces, scrolling etc.

I am on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro and there is no lag whatsoever, it's nice and speedy.

To be honest, I can't see a massive speed increase, but I never thought mine was slow at all to begin with!

Also very happy and haven't received any errors or noticed any bugs... I have very high hopes for El Capitan! :D

certainly seeing some nice improvements with the Iris Pro on my 2015 13" combined with the extremely fast Safari/Preview rendering/scrolling.

Promising news. Thanks!
That's really good to hear! I also have a 2012 rMBP and would like to know if the HD4000 will be supported by the Metal API/driver. Is there any way in System Information (in 10.11) to determine if Metal is in use?

I'm finding improved performance for the UI on my rMB 12". However, the new mail.app seems to hammer the CPU constantly and causes system wide chugging including the UI from time to time.

Great feedback! I'm looking forward to install it!
Do you have all the transparencies enabled?

You don't have Iris Pro. Only Iris - big difference!

Yeah I have all transparencies enabled :) I'm one of those people who greatly prefer this design direction with Yosemite and onwards.

And also, I didn't mention it before, and not sure if it makes a difference, but mine in a non-Retina screen.

Anyone know if there are speed increases and a better running OS X with a 2011 Macbook Pro? or could it be time to buy a new Mac o_O

On mine the animations and scrolling are super smooth. There are new lags in places that have never lagged before, but I'm blaming those on it being a first beta.

I didn't know that the UI has been updated to leverage Metal. Can anyone confirm this?

Update: Nvm. Someone else explained this to me. Did anyone do some safari or finder scrolling test? It stutters occasionally on Mavericks (albeit less severely than Yosemite) and I'm contemplating whether the 'lag' issue from Yosemite has been fixed.

Here's a video showing the perfomance on my rMBP 2012 on El Capitan.

*snip*
Thanks a lot for this. Could you do me a favor and try one thing for me. It's fairly simple but I saw this animation stutter in Yosemite even on 2015 Macs and since I have the exact same rMBP as you do, I'd be happy to see it fixed on El Capitan.

Move the Apps folder to the right side of the Dock and use the Grid View. Click on it and tell me if the opening animation is smooth or if it stutters.

Thanks in advance!

Also, Portugal :D
