Just wondering if there is any UI lag with 10.11 using a 2012 MacBook Pro. Curious to see how well METAL has improved the UI performance on the first gen retina macbook pros.

And this is with a first generation (15" mid 2012/early 2013 w/GeForce 650m) rMBP?
Awesome! I'm hoping the Iris Pro has similar improvements.yes 1st gen 650M using HD4000
That's really good to hear! I also have a 2012 rMBP and would like to know if the HD4000 will be supported by the Metal API/driver. Is there any way in System Information (in 10.11) to determine if Metal is in use?Promising news. Thanks!
Great feedback! I'm looking forward to install it!I am on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro and there is no lag whatsoever, it's nice and speedy.
To be honest, I can't see a massive speed increase, but I never thought mine was slow at all to begin with!
Also very happy and haven't received any errors or noticed any bugs... I have very high hopes for El Capitan!
Take a look at this post from reddit. The guy was using a 2014 13" rMBP and there is absolutely no lag.

You don't have Iris Pro. Only Iris - big difference!certainly seeing some nice improvements with the Iris Pro on my 2015 13" combined with the extremely fast Safari/Preview rendering/scrolling.

Do you have all the transparencies enabled?

Was transparency enabled?
I didn't know that the UI has been updated to leverage Metal. Can anyone confirm this?I'm testing it and believe me, the UI performance is stunning! Changing spaces, scrolling etc.
Thanks a lot for this. Could you do me a favor and try one thing for me. It's fairly simple but I saw this animation stutter in Yosemite even on 2015 Macs and since I have the exact same rMBP as you do, I'd be happy to see it fixed on El Capitan. Here's a video showing the perfomance on my rMBP 2012 on El Capitan.
