Since my old iMac mid 2010 is running hot and getting noisier by the year, I wonder if Sierra will accelerate the imminent doom of my dear old companion.
I haven't read anywhere that Sierra improves performance or has any under the hood features like Mavericks had.

If it's running poorly try doing a clean install. It should not be running poorly. Consider boosting the ram.

If it's running hot and noisy, have you ever taken it somewhere to be physically cleaned? A quick teardown and a few blasts of compressed air can work wonders.

Yeah, it's most likely filled with dust after all these years.
