It seems like all of the USB-C hubs I have seen either have short cables designed to plug into the side of a laptop, or are dongles attached directly to the iPad (like the new Hyper and Satechi). Are the any hubs that have like an 8-10" USB-C cable so the hub can sit flat on a desk without a bundle of cables and devices hanging off the side of my iPad Pro while it's on the keyboard? I suppose I could look at a full USB-C dock, but that is kind of overkill.

Anyone know of a hub like that?

I thought extension cables were not permitted under the USB spec and supposedly didn't work reliably. I have never tried one as I had heard that about the extension, so I did not think to look for one. Has anyone used a USB-C extension cable?

I haven't used one myself and after seeing your comment I Googled "USB-C extension cable". The cables are available but it appears to be a dicey proposition as to whether they work properly with any given combination of equipment.

This is the current problem I’m having. The USB-C cable that came with my new iPad Pro is way too short. My lighting cable was way longer than it.

I have use a 0.5m ugreen extension cable with my Anker usb-c hub. I have mainly used it as a second screen for iMovie and a mirrored screen for LumaFusion using hdmi. I all used the hubs card reader a few times to import photos. No issues yet.

Agreed this is a major problem with available hubs. No ideas why nobody has addressed this issue. Having a 3” cable with 3-4 heavy usb/monitor cables hanging off it is a mess.

You can buy a dock at much higher cost of course.

Funny no one else has mentioned it, but yeah there are options available.

This one from OWC comes with a 0.5 meter detachable cable.

Yeah it is a huge dock, but since it is intended to sit on your desk, I don’t see that as a problem.

I agree, the hubs designed to hang off the side, or attach to the iPad are really poor design and destined to fail quickly. I hope manufacturers see this and have some new products coming.

Yeah, I read the OP again and realize he’s looking for hubs specifically. Something smaller than a desktop dock. I have not seen any hubs with longer cables.

I’m going to use a short extension cord for my desk setup
Cheapest/easiest solution

Yeah, I was looking for a small hub, Honestly, if the Satechi dongle they are releasing at the end of the month would work with a short extension cable it would be exactly what I am looking for size-wise. Googling a bit on the subject makes me skeptical that it will work reliably though.
