Any way of saving audio sent via Whatsapp?

I've been sent a couple of audio recordings taken at our choir rehearsal, so that I can send them to the rest of the choir by email.

Problem is that they sent me the audio clips by Whatsapp, and I don't find a way to save such clips to any other place of the iPhone (GoodReader included), nor to forward the files by email.

Is there any way of getting these clips out of Whatsapp?

The guy who sent me it is an Android user, and I'd prefer to avoid having to tell him to send me the clips again in other way "because I've an iPhone"...

This is not an iphone-specific problem. The person who sent you the files should have known that you cannot save them from WhatsApp per-se on any smart phone (not Android, not Windows phone, not iPhone). If he didn't know that, ask him to send the files via some other means.

You might also want to contact WhatsApp support people directly, thy will know more about this issue.

Not sure what you mean by "failed" but the easiest thing would be to uninstall (remove) and reinstall (from the AppStore) WhatsApp on your iPhone. Also, try restarting your iPhone after that.

Sorry bro, for the late reply.
But I got a way out...
I know its a bit time taking and boring.. But thats the only way out..
The idea is to,
download the audio from whatsapp, you will get an option of forwarding the audio. Hit that. You will then have two options, one is to mail it, or to forward by whatsapp. Now choose forward by e-mail. Choose your own e-mail and send it to yourself.. Now, there's an app called Downloader.
Download that app, and then go to your mail. Open the mail that you sent to yourself. Download the audio from there and wait till it loads completely.
After it's downloaded, press and hold it, you will get options of open with. Choose the Downloader app in the menu that comes up. And wolla! Your file is now stored in that app and you can listen to those audios again and again even when offline..
It's a bit tricky, but it works..

I downloaded that app, yet when I tried to open and save the audio on the app, it said the file we either broken or not supported. I do not understand why. However is there another way to save it or can you explain to me how you used the app as I may be doing it wrong. The audio is very important as it is a recording of my daughters heartbeat on my first scan!
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Are you sure it's not automatically saving the media? It does for me. If you select the person who sent the file to you, there will be an option to look at all the media that was sent.

Hi, unfoturnately, the option to forward audio file on iphone via email is not there anymore.
I saved the audio files attached to a conversation by going to the chat, then to "contatc info" and choosing "email conversation".
The audio files are sent as m4a.

Purposed solution

Hey! I was looking for a solution to the same problem. My iPhone does not consider audio notes as attachments or media files of the conversation, then I can't forward by email, just to another contacts.

What I've done is plug in the iPhone with a jack 3.5" male-male to the iMac audio-in and use the free (open source, etc) program called Audacity. You can edit too BTW..

A bit tedious, but I've been able to forward a voice message to myself (my own contact saved on the same phone). When that sends through, I receive it in whatsapp in the old format, where I am then able to forward the voice message to an email address. Again I email it to myself, where I open the voice message from the email through any other device (computer or iPad etc.). I then play the message on the secondary device and voice record it back into my phone, rename and save

Alternatively, you can just send it to yourself on whatsapp and it'll be there for easy access when needed, assuming you don't message yourself often...

There is a app called X-plore, this is like windows explorer and works in mobile. I did install and found the whatsapp directory for videos, sounds, chats and downloaded them. Particularly the sound files were in format *.aac. I was able to download through this app via bluetooth to my laptop.
