excited to see theres a public beta of iOS 14 and went into my iPhone and iPad, both of which have public beta profiles. both offer me an install of 13.6 which is downloading slowly on both of them just now. this seems daft that im going to install this and then immediately install another operating system. is there any way to miss this and go straight to 14?

Are you sure you installed the correct beta profiles? Because it should to straight to 14 beta
Sounds like you haven’t downloaded the new Beta Profile from the public beta site, and instead have the iOS 13.6 profile instead.
The profile you want to have installed is this one (and remove any other ones):

The profiles are different for iOS 13 and 14.
You need to remove your current profile, and download a new one at http://beta.apple.com/profile
