I don't always want people to know when I've read a message that comes in over Facebook or Messenger (why do we need both, btw??). On Androids, with preview enabled, you'd get a notification and you could often read all or most of a message without entering the app, and therefore signaling to others that you were active and seeing messages you've received.

Any way to achieve this similar 'stealth' reading on incoming FB messages with iphone 6?

are you jailbroken? if yes, just download facebook messenger essentials on cydia and you are all set. it disables read receipts and they dont know if you are typing as well, disable VOIP too

No, not jailbroken. There's really no way to do it otherwise? It's very simple on the Samsung and presumably other androids.

No other workarounds for this? Does this mean no one cares that they can't read their FB messages without the other party knowing as you can on androids?

The notification screen on my iPhone shows me the beginning part of newly received FB messages.

Really? Do you know how that came to be? Are you using Messenger or just Facebook? (I have Messenger and Facebook. Why do we need messenger too? I was basically forced into it it seemed).

I use the Google Chrome browser, so i can request Desktop site instead of mobile version.

It previews a lot of the message without ever having to open the actual message

Ah, the mysterious Google chrome. What's that all about it, anyway? Any reason why I should switch to it from Safari? (Do they do the same thing? I'm not a techie, so forgive my ignorance…)

I do, yes.

Do you understand the difference between messenger and facebook, and why I 'need' both, with two different icons taking space on my screen?

Hmm. Now I AM getting the previews in messenger. Maybe before i didn't have messenger, but only Facebook, and thus no previews?

You need Messenger to do messaging, and Facebook to do the other Facebook things.

Some people I know have managed to avoid installing messsenger and still have message functionality. But I suppose time will catch up to them eventually.

It's very annoying to now have 2 FB apps on my phone.
