So my AirPod Max continuously latch onto my iPhone and will pair with them throughout the day from another room. This is particularly annoying when I receive a phone call or face time as I get no audio until I manually switch back, what’s even worse is if I flip the camera during a FaceTime call, it will switch audio to the AirPods Max, also once I finish a call, the audio will switch to my AirPods Max again. . I thought it was a qurky iOS bug on my iPhone 13 Pro and could never get it to stop, even after changing the pairing mode to “only when previously paired to this device” in the settings on my phone. When I got my iPhone 14 Pro today it wasn’t doing it for at first, and I thought great it’s fixed. But I just got a FaceTime call and guess what, it instantly paired with my AirPods Max. Even though they had never been used with the new phone.

I only use my AirPods Max with my MacBook when at my desk, I never intentionally use them with my iPhone, I have AirPods Pro and Beats Fit Pro that I use with my phone.

So is there any way I can unpair the AirPods Max from my iPhone but keep them paired to my MacBook Pro? It seems as though unpairing will remove from everything and repairing will add them to everything again!

Thanks

Not really. If they’re on the same Apple ID, they’re going to get shared. I run into this myself with my MFi hearing aids - they’re paired to an audio transmitter plugged into my work Mac, but if I get a call on my iPhone in the middle of a meeting I lose the meeting :/

One option would be to create a new Family Sharing Apple ID for the Mac. But there might be unintended consequences with doing that (i.e. shared data, photos, etc. no longer working on a different Apple ID).

Other than that, just remember to toggle Bluetooth off when you’re using the computer.
