Any way to share my ip4200 printer with my network.

Apparently the drivers Canon has for the ip4200 doesn't support network printing with macs. Infact non of the Pixma models support it. ( I wonder who dropped the ball, canon or apple). Anyone know of a way to do it using some 3rd party program or some other method. This is for my macbook. I just got it the other day.

Apple let me down big time with this.

Any help. I would get the airport router and use the USB port, but apple has decided not to support many of the Canon printers with it. Including mines.

No, Canon let you down big time. Thankfully, you can enable printer sharing in System Preferences, and any Mac (or other computer that supports LPD printing) will be able to print to your Canon, so long as it is hooked up to your MacBook, or whatever. You can thank Apple for that one. This assumes that your Canon printer works normally with your Mac (over USB).

It's not Apple's job to support other companies' products. Complain to Canon about their poor Mac support, especially if the product is advertise as Mac compatible (but without network features).

Unless the manufacturer explicitly advertises its printer as networkable, it is not networkable on MacOS X. Most manufacturers, including Canon, produce only USB drivers for MacOS X. With the exception of AirPort redirection [and possibly Mac-to-Mac sharing], these drivers work only for direct connections. To network the printer, you need to use MacOS X's built-in CUPS system. Download and install Gutenprint. If Gutenprint does not include a driver for your printer, you can usually find the driver at the Linuxprinting.org website.

Canon gives network drivers for windows users, they should do the same for mac users.

What is with companies giving better support for windows and mac users. Support should be at least equal for both. User base size shouldn't be a factor.

As long as you enable printer sharing, any computer on your network should be able to print from it. I have the same printer and when my girlfriend was on her Macbook on my wireless network, the printer was hooked up to my MBP and she printed from it pretty easily.

The issue is the printer is connected to a PC not a Mac.

I am in the same situation here.

You can get everything working by conecting to the mac but the only problerm with this is the disk printing pause doesn't wortk and you just have to guess when to put the tray in.

This annoyed me so the printer is back on the windows machine. (I prefer cd boc labeler pro to any other software and since i bought it I wanna use it!, I could try it under darwine i guess!)

Then there is an experimental Canon iP4000 driver that will work but only in black and white (try colour printing and the colour layers will not match up and make a mess)
