It occurred to me that one cool thing to do would be to choose a show - say Star Trek - and have it play an episode at random. There are times when I know I want to watch a show but don't want to decide on an ep in particular. Is that possible to do that on the Apple TV?

Create a smart playlist in iTunes. I do this with Movies. I have a "Movie of the Day" smart playlist.

I didn't realize AppleTV could play movies or TV shows from a playlist. I think I have only seen the specific show titles...but not knowing about video playlists, I guess I don't have any.

Yet, I don't have a "Puchased on AppleTV 'playlist'" for my TV Shows or Movies...as I do for my Music. Wouldn't there be one for video? My TV Shows just list all my shows with no playlists, smart or otherwise. Same thing for movies.

So it's as easy as seting up a playlist with movies or TV Shows in it, in iTunes?

Yes, it is as easy as setting up a playlist in iTunes, but you also need to make sure you set show playlists to "All" (as opposed to just "Music") within the Audio & Video settings of the ATV
