I would love to be able to power on the computer without reaching around to the back of the cylinder to turn on the computer. Is there any way to have a remote power on? I miss the days of turning on my mac with the keyboard. :(

Thanks!

Have you try sing to it?

Can it be set to power on when power is restored?

If so, you could use a switched power strip to turn it on. (That would also let you power off all of the vampires in your setup.)

th
:D

 But it's not really a power button is it? (especially with USB or Bluetooth keyboards) since something needs to be "on" to monitor for the keyboard button press?

The old PowerPC and earlier Apple computers had a power button on the keyboard. These were the pre USB keyboards, using the ADB connector. Now granted they were highly sensitive and couldn't be hot swapped but it was handy.

It was an actual power button. You could turn on the system from a cold shutdown.

Tom, you owe me a keyboard cleaning fee, after I sprayed coffee everywhere when I saw your post.

Regarding the power button, just turn it around 180 degrees. Not like there are fans back there anymore to blow hot air all over you like the previous models, that is unless you turn it on it's side like a beg keg! :D

Why are you turning yours off?

Why are you turning yours off?

For some reason, on windows 8.1 I no longer have a sleep option so turn it off every night - maybe a quirk with the nMP install, as 8.1 on the rMBP has the sleep option

Best way to turn on anything is reaching around to the back button. Unfortunately some only get turned on this way. Not necessarily a bad thing depending on perspective and depending on the moment.

Why are you turning yours off?

Because despite being on version 10.9.1 of Max OS X, Apple still haven't managed to develop a completely bug free sleep mode. Every few sleeps it's guaranteed to mess up something (bluetooth, display, network connections etc.).

make love to your nMP...it will "turn your computer on."

Well, it looks like Darth Vader after all. So, use the Force.

i've found it odd that almost every time I've called into one of my three local Apple stores over the past few weeks to have a play with the demo nMP the thing does not respond and needs some sort of intervention to kick it into life. Very strange and a tad worrying.

Shutdown button on back??? Ha ha, it smells the crap to have let skip such idiot detail.

I wouldn't let it sleep in Windows. Evil things could happen.

Put it on one of those smart strips with a control socket, and plug in something that you can turn on easier (printer, monitor) in the control so when you power on the printer, everything else comes on

And turn off the screen saver - you don't want the computer to power off if you don't move the mouse for a few minutes....
