As I'm deaf, I have a hard time speaking as well, so opening Siri is a pain. I'd have to try and say something, then she would (sometimes) bounce back and let me type in my question. Is there an easier way I can type in Siri by default?

Thanks!

I had a good look around the web for about two hours - and no I don't think there is. I even tried to type out a question in the text edit program - highlighted it - right clicked and invoked the "Start speaking" option under "Speech" to see if it would work. But nada/nothing/zilch. Seems if you right-click on any text for speech option with Siri listening - the speech will not play. As soon as the microphone icon appears (in Siri) the speech plays straight away.

I never actually used Siri before tonight, and it looks like it does not like my accent one bit. Siri didn't understand much that I said at all. Being able to type inside is fairly good though. Maybe in the future Apple will allow for straight text input as an option. I am surprised it is not there by default.

Siri is meant only for people who have flawless and unaccented speech -- not for the rest of us. I have never even bothered with it, since my speech is somewhat difficult at times for humans to understand, much less a computerized machine or device. The whole idea of Apple and other technology manufacturers moving more and more towards speech-initiated devices is really bothersome to me, as there are many people for whom this simply is not going to work for one reason or another. People who have speech impairments or who have heavy accents are not going to fare well unless the new devices also provide a means of accessing them through typing text rather than speaking it.

Seems you were way ahead of the game.

Type To Siri will be available as an Accessibility option in iOS 11.
