I have a 2009 iMac and may want to upgrade soon to a Mac Pro however because of a tight budget I may not have enough for the apple display so I was wondering is there a way, even a hack, that would allow me to use my late 2009 iMac as a display?

Thanks. :apple:

If you have the 27 inch iMac, then yes. I do exactly that. It is called target display mode. No need for a hack, it is a built in Apple feature.

I know that works with the 27 models, just wondering cause I have the 21.5 model, is there any way to do this on that?

All of the Apple references I read state that, for 2009 models, only the 27 works that way. Sorry.

Thats why I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way, just because apple says this only works here doesn't mean thats the case people have hacked other things, siri for example.

Use OS X "Screen Sharing" until you can get a proper monitor. With a direct gigbit ethernet connection it should be speedy.
