Hey all

I am selling my 4S on the condition that it can stay jailbroken. If I tried the usual "erase phone" on the phone settings I assume it will ask me to plug into iTunes for an update to ios6.

I have SHSH saved, but I have read somewhere that is useless to downgrade software for the 4S.

Is there any other way I can safely wipe all of my info from my current iPhone so I can sell it and not worry about any of my info being open to the new buyer?

Thanks a million! :apple:

Once the new redsn0w comes out, and only if you have both your shsh hash and apticket, you will be able to re-restore to 5.1.1. If you install 6.0 then you will not be able to downgrade. Check the iPhone dev teams blog for updates.

Edit: Here's the link. Get familiar with the details and keep your eye out for the redsn0w update.

Thing is I gotta get this sold tomorrow. Should I just delete my info manually and even "reset all settings"? Is it possible to have information left on my phone?

Just to confirm: by clicking "erase all content and settings" on the phone rather than restoring with iTunes...will it ask me update my software to 6.0?

Do not use erase all content and settings. It will fail and cause problems which will only be resolved by updating. And right now you'll only be able to update to 6.0. I'm not sure when the new redsn0w will be out but based on the blob post I don't get the impression it will be long. But since you're selling it tomorrow you're in a tough spot. Are you selling it to a stranger or someone you know?

Its a stranger, which is why I am bringing it up. If it was a family member or friend I could not care less.

The only info I really have on my phone is a few apps (such as chase bank, and amex)

All of my contacts and work email is through exchange, so once I remove the email address the contacts and email go away.

Your options are very limited, this should have been done a few days ago while Apple still signed 5.1.1

True. I unjailbroke my 4S and returned it back to stock 5.1.1 the day prior to 6.0 being released so I could easily wipe my info and give the buyer of my 4S the option of jailbreaking it or just updating to 6.0. Now I have a nice virgin 4S up for sale :)

Yes, you can do it manually.
An erase all wont work on a JB device past 5.0 firmware.
It will just error out and nothing will get erased.

ok I think Im in the same boat I want to restore my phone to 5.11 on my 4s, however apple stoped signing for that... so my options are wait till ultrasnow to restore to clean 5.1.1??

Ultrasn0w is a software unlock hack, it has nothing to do with restoring or jailbreaking.

If you never saved hashes for iOS5, there is no way to ever restore to that firmware.
