Nope. It can't really be that important, anyway, if Steve doesn't need it.
They are really important IMO. Apps like Twitter, and IM will be muuuuch better after it.
battery life not so much though.
Battery life will be no different than it currently is with Push enabled.
they're 3 months late, and still no word?
I believe Apple has a target goal, which is confidential, of how many different threads are started on this topic. So, keep starting new threads asking the same question. You never know which one will trigger it being announced.
Yeah, I would think battery life wouldn't be affected since the iPhone will not have to be constantly fetching for data. Instead, it just has to be receptive to incoming data (sounds kinda passive) and energy will only be used when new data is pushed in.
I read the release notes and never saw anything about badges/push notification being added yet. But I have two apps, both use it. Rolando and animoto to be exact. Rolando I'm pretty sure doesn't do anything on the internet, it's simply a badge that's posted when you close the app. But animoto's whole app is simply an interface to their web service, all the work is done there. So that leads me to believe they're using push notification for their badge.

Haha, that's a good one.I guess it has been PUSHED back.
Here's a problem....
Apple wants to avoid another iPocalypse when they release Push Notification feature to the iPhone and iPod touch. So, they are taking one step at a time, and beside, Apple already use push notification on the App Store update on the iPhone and iPod touch.
So, my guess, we have to wait till WWDC 2009 this summer.

Does the App Store actually display badges without the user having to first open the app? I have always thought they only appear after you open the app and it has a chance to figure out how many updates are available. In that case, it would not be using a push service.
I'm hoping Macworld it'll be revealed. We could really use that right about now, at the highlight of the AppStore's success.
