Hmm.. I'm not so sure. At least the game doesn't have
the horrific DRM some games have. I can think of many
companies that treat their users much much worse.
I take it you are not registered on the Epic forums then?
In all honestly, my main beef with the game is perhaps the admins attitude on the forums, and the fact that the powers that be are terribly slow to release much needed patches to bring the game up to scratch.
After a year, there has only been 3 PC patches, and only now is it near where it should have been in the first place. But still it has some quite significant bugs in it none the less.
Another problem with the game, is custom content. As has been said already, map making and mods were always very popular on previous versions of UT. And in a way, that hasn't changed with UT3. But what has changed is the fact that custom map files are pretty big now, and pretty much no one can be arsed to download them. It's shocking.
You can play a stock map and the server is full. But as soon as a custom map gets voted in, you can guarantee 2/3rds of the players will leave. Game ruined
A shame, because a good friend of mine is an excellent map maker for UT2004 and UT3, and he's won a prize or two for his work (He makes VCTF maps
www.plugh.co.uk &
www.thedecent.co.uk if you are interested). But next to no one plays custom content.. So the effort is largely wasted.
I hope by some miracle the game becomes more popular though! Because right now the server browser is a pretty baron place.
