Lol, recently got a message that I should optimize iCloud photos because my 512GB Pro doesn't have enough free space. It seems to complain whenever one has less than 10% free space. :p

Annoying thing, I know there's at least 20GB worth of storage used for cache and temp files. Wish iOS would give users an option to clean that up instead of asking to delete data I actually want to keep locally on my device. I don't have a gigantic iCloud photo library, either - just 25GB which is a mere ~5% of the iPad's capacity.

Same for me.

Actually hoping to see 1tb this year but maybe that’s wishful thinking.

The 12.9”, reduce size/weight with 1tb storage and Face ID will be very tempting for me over the 10.5”. Or maybe I’ll just keep both haha.

Went to the Apple store last weekend and used the rumored physical sizes to compare the expected new 12.9 bs current 10.5. Forbes had an article with a mock-up recently as welll. Seems like the reduced bezel 12.9 will be barely 3 can longer and 2 cms wider than the current 10 chassis. Brilliant. Perfect for a laptop replacement and finally not unwieldy as a tablet.

10.5 and new 12.9 May be overkill. You’d be way better served (me too and I suspect many others) with a 12.9 and a mini. The right tool for the right job. But ... sigh ... Apple.

The 10.5 compromises on both fronts. Not big enough for proper work and too large for comfortable couch browsing , portability or as a reader.

I got the 10.5 as a replacement for the Air 2 and find it fine for browsing and carrying around. It's also my main reader, having fully ditched my Kindle Paperwhite. So it's really a lot of personal preference and different strokes for different folks.

That's why have options and you're exactly correct. I'm used to my Kindle Fire 8.9 for reading. Used to have a mini for couch browsing and travel, now just make do with an X. I tried the 10.5 at home for a weekend and it just didn't work for me as an ereader or portable couch browser. So I figured why get a device that's trying to do two things at once and does neither well, may as well get the monster sized iPad and wait for a MINI or make do with the phone.

Yes my 12.9” is 512, my 10.5 is 256.

I do a ton of video editing and podcast editing on my iPad Pro and the extra space is very nice to have.

For me personally the 10.5 pro works great for web browsing on the sofa.

I prefer the 12.9+mini combo too, but screen size is very much a subjective preference based on individual uses and tastes.

I do think one of the major reasons many people like the 9.7/10.5 size is because I believe it’s about as small as a desktop webpage can be before you need to start zooming and scrolling. I find on the mini, some desktop webpages are too small. But of course the “desktop” webpage is ultimately an arbitrary size/format. Ideally all websites should auto format to the screen size of whatever device you’re using.

I prefer the 10.5 inch as I have a MacBook Air so don’t need a laptop replacement. I have the 10.5, iPad mini 4 and my kindle oasis 2.

If Apple’s track record is anything to go by, and they expand storage to 1TB this fall, watch the new tiers be 128 > 512 > 1TB

512 and 1TB makes sense, as the iPad Pro is becoming a computer replacement for a growing number of users.

Annoying that they always remove the sweet spot to up-sell.. but a 128GB base model wouldn’t be so bad.

I like a lot of on-board storage - I have a 256GB 10.5 - but Apple charges a heck of a premium for additional memory. I shudder to think what they would ask for a 1TB device (though I want one).

I don’t see them upping the storage this year - 512GB is still more than you can find in an iPhone and I expect at least one year of iPhone parity before the iPad leaps forward again.
