All I did was install the new ipcc. did not restore, or update the firmware. All my music and videos suddenly disappeared, although the space is still taken up on the phone.

No, sounds like you have your sync set up wrong or you didn't reboot..

Did a hard reset about 4 times, plugged it into itunes and tried to re-sync only to get the insufficient space error. Its almost like the songs are there, but the index or something is messed up.

Really not looking forward to restoring it, since I spent alot of time ssh'ing custom sounds (voicemail, etc) into the phone, along with transparent dock and everything.

BTW, I am running jailbroken 3.0 with the 5.5 carrier file. Never had a single problem with the phone (except for the usual ATT service sucks balls) until I installed the new carrier update.

Is there any way to fix the indexing on the phone? I seem to recall there is a way to fix the iTunes index since my friends itunes did something similar once...
