Curious I haven’t see many threads pop up on here, the reviews seem to be fairly positive so far. The 3gb of ram seem to help performance and the Smart Keyboard now makes it the most affordable way to gain access to that accessory

made the decision to upgrade our kids little android tablets to the 7th gen ipad. I’m sure they will be very happy since it’s a huge upgrade for them. Haven’t got them quite yet but in the works.

who else got one?

My opinion on the device changed when it was figured out that it had an extra gigabyte of RAM compared to its two older brothers.

Thinking about it ... but there is a reddit thread about the screen not being full SRGB color gamut i.e. worse than the previous generation 9.7 that it replaces. Still not sure if they have cheaped out the screen. Will look in the Apple store later today.
As mentioned in the other thread, the previous 6th generation's specs don't mention full sRGB color gamut support either, so I don't know where they're getting that spec from. It may support it, but it's not actually in the specs. So the fact that it's not in the 7th generation 10.2" specs doesn't in itself mean anything.

The only way to be sure would be to actually measure it, but I don't think anyone has done that yet.

Either way though, I'd get the 7th over the 6th generation (unless the 6th gen was dirt cheap) because the 7th has the Smart Connector, because it has a bigger screen, and because it has 50% more RAM.

Interestingly, some people are now reporting that some games have additional more complex graphics settings that are allowed on the 10.2" 7th gen iPad, but which are not allowed on the 6th gen iPad, despite the fact they have the same CPU and GPU. I guess that extra RAM on the 7th gen iPad really makes a big difference in these games.

Went from 5th gen to 7th. Nearly got 6th Gen on sale. Glad it did not. Very satisfied W/ 7th. General snappiness about same. But unbelievable reduction of internet page refreshes. 500 to 1 improvement. Think must be due to increase to 3 GB ram.

Makes sense, ram doesn’t play a role in more graphically intense games when loading the environments and such.

it’s nice to see that even with the same CPU, we are still getting a performance boost in other areas that are just as important.

This essentially completes the A10 cycle, it’s about as good as it gets now.

I see it in real. Side by side with air 3. it isn’t that bad. still very good display.

Air 3 is WCG. The OP is asking for a comparison against other non-WCG iPads.

dun you get my point? if compare to a better one, it is not bad. it is the point. why compare to a worse? already said not bad.

I would go on swappa and buy the iPad Pro 10.5 inch. It’s 400-500 bucks and you get that beautiful promotion display which is well worth the money. It’s also a more powerful iPad and still get Apple Pencil and keyboard support.

Edit: its also 64gb base storage vs the 32gb base storage on the 10.2.

So I used the new 10.2 today at a local Target. They have it on a display stand immediately to the right of an iPad Pro 11. And...it's not bad. I was expecting to be disgusted by how the display looked, but it looked quite nice. Neither device ran well on Target's in-store Wifi though. I wouldn't buy one if you were looking to push it hard with gaming or photo editing, but for normal media consumption, I don't hate this device. I also wouldn't pay 329 for it knowing how often the prior two iterations hit 249.00, which I imagine will happen with regularity closer to Xmas.

I got the cellular 128 GB version last Friday. I think the dark mode sort of covers up some of the displays deficiencies vs the Pro/Air models. I think it's a great package for a budget tablet, and I'm glad they bumped the ram to 3 GB.

My main use of iPads are the Pro models, but wanted this one as a backup and for my niece/nephews to use when they are at my house.

yeah I can’t believe they removed full SRGB Support. I don’t get why though, that’s just dumb

that and it still has first gen touch ID

I’m curious if the device will charge faster though if connected to a much more better source (like the Air3, Mini5 and all pros except 9.7 inch)

gosh even the 9.7 and most likely the 12,9 inch 1st gen pros are better

As I wrote elsewhere, going from 2 to 3 GB is not just 50% more RAM when it comes to refreshes, it's more like doubling the RAM (or even more), as I(pad)OS takes up the bulk of the first GB and more than that when you multitask. My mini 3 hardly ever refreshes, like my 4GB devices, while my 9.7 pro does it very often if I keep switching apps and multitasking.

Had to google SRGB to see what it was...

I came to iPad 7th gen from 5th gen. According to what I read tonight, 5th and 6th gen ipad both have SRGB.

All I can tell you is, I cannot see any difference whatsoever in quality of colors, or anything else, on my 7th vs. my 5th display. I have them tonight both side by side on several websites, internet videos, and then on some channels of live TV...I cannot see any difference.

As I said in a previous post, the reduction in page refreshes on 7th vs. 5th gen. is unreal for me.
