Just curious if anyone has sent their computer to them for upgrades. What was the experience like? Worth it? If you could do it again, would you just do it yourself?

A MP is in my future and I would like to see if they are a worth while choice for someone who has little to no experience working on computers. Or can I do it all myself without too much trouble?

Thanks

From what I get from their very informative website, they only upgrade memory and hard drives.

Even my mom could upgrade those parts in the Mac Pro, and she is 60 years old an never saw the inside of a computer. Seriously, it's a piece of cake and not worth paying someone else to do it.

The instruction manual will help give you information on how to do things. Also, this forum can be helpful as well.

I agree with Transporteur: the Mac Pro is very easy to upgrade yourself. Apple provides good and easy to read manuals (the user manual it comes with describes upgrading the MP in chapter 3). For upgrading the Mac Pro regarding memory, hard disks, optical drive(s) and adding PCI-e cards I'd do it myself. It's a waste of money if you have somebody else do it. The cpu is not upgradable so that requires some "hacking". That's the only thing I'd have somebody else do. Unfortunately this also causes other problems like the Apple warranty so I'd not upgrade the cpu at all.

From what I've read MPG does not upgrade the machines themselves, they have OWC do it. OWC stress tests the machine and also provides all support and warranty stuff. They also offer a special cpu upgrade program. No need for MPG, you can send it directly to OWC if you want them to upgrade the machine, but again, this can be done easily by yourself.

All the upgrades it looks like they do are dead simple if you know how to use a screwdriver.

haha, thanks for not being too cruel.

all this is good to know, because i very much like to save money.
