Anybody got this HDD in their Macbook? On sale at Newegg.

Sorry, that is NOT a compatible drive. It uses the ATA-6 interface, and your Macbook has SATA.

However, the Hitachi SATA drives are generally considered a good buy, though you may consider Seagate, simply because they have a longer warranty.

When using NewEgg, use the 'guided search' on the side, and one of the options for small hard drives is to pick an interface. Just pick "SATA" and then you know everything you are looking at is the right interface.

And finally, the most expensive, the Seagate. But it also has the best warranty (5 years, instead of one year for the above two). 144$

FWIW, the OP drive suggestion is compatible with PowerBooks and iBooks. I just bought one to replace my 80 gig, which I'm going to turn into an external.

I think I'm gonna go with that Western Digital Drive. However, are there any 160GB SATA drives that run at 7200 RPMs? I don't see any on Newegg. If I could, I would spend a bit more for a faster drive.

Seagate announced one a long time ago, but it is yet to ship yet.

Right now the biggest 7200rpm 2.5" drive is 100 GB, available from numerous manufacturers.

100 gigs would probably do me fine. 160 is just nice to have.

Is there a pretty substantial increase in app opening/boot-up speed/ file opening with the 7200RPM drive? How about heat?

From the tests I've seen, the 160 GB 5400rpm drive is almost as fast as a 100 GB 7200rpm drive because the 160 GB drive is a perpendicular recording (PMR) drive.

No idea about heat, noise, etc.
