I got the email address I wanted. I thinking of just letting my friends know about my @me.com email, and then set my current one to be the "spam" email.

Just keeping my Gmail account now, Already made the move from hotmail (thank god) and i really can't be bothered going through all that crap again.

You can have your gmail account auto-forward messages to your iCloud account, that's as close as you'll come to syncing from it.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the idea of an @me.com address. I think i would like @icloud.com better.
I already had Mobileme and used that as my primary email, so I'm not really switching over to a new one.

I use multiple email addresses at my own domain and there's no way I'm switching to a single new address. If it's a condition of some iCloud services then so be it, I just won't be using them.
^This. Millions of people use Gmail and a ton of businesses use their Google Apps. This is a tried and true system that works great! (So great that Apple is actually copying elements of it in their new Mail app like threaded views, etc.)
I don't see why anyone would ditch Gmail for Me.com especially week 1 of iCloud. No one knows if this thing will rock as much as Apple is claiming it would be. MobileMe didn't do that great... and I for one am sure glad I didn't use Me.com as my primary email address.
Heck no. I already have plenty of eggs in Apple's basket, no need to add an e-mail to that. Plus I already have a couple of different e-mail addresses, so in that sense too there's no need to add more intto the mix.
I will say though that I'd love notification center to allow me to pick which of my e-mail addresses I get notifications for and which not. Some aren't important enough for those, but I'd still like to have manual access to them without having to enabled / disabled the whole account just for when I want to check it.

I've moved to iCloud for email since downloading the iOS 5 GM earlier this week. So far, I'm happy enough with it, not to mention I got the exact address I wanted.
I don't use emails much though, so there may be a lot of people who use it differently.

Has anyone had any trouble logging in to the @me account? I am going to use the advice of mikethebigo and forward everything to the @me account, I have selected the @me name however it keeps on saying "wrong password". I know i am typing in the correct password, because i am logged into iCloud.
It's been on and off all day for me (password errors). FWIW, I've had pretty good luck with Mobile Me (and .Mac) email over quite a few years, it's been pretty reliable. It's iDisk that sucked ass for me.
Certainly added @me.com email to Mail, but going to keep Gmail as primary for now (in addition to university email account).
I did move all my calendars and contacts over to iCloud though. Syncing with Google in iCal or on the iPhone always felt really glitchy. I hope I won't regret moving though for whatever reason...

However I'm going to forward all my mail from the gmail account to the @me account (when it works), I decided to use the iCloud mail because I simply want everyone in one place, storage, photo streaming, mail, contacts etc to make life more easy.
I doubt I'll really ever use the @me address.
I've had a Hotmail account for more than 10 years and for the last few years I've been primarily using Gmail.
Thing is, I don't trust Apple on stuff like this. In 2 or 3 years they may come up with another bright idea and drop support for @me.
But with Google or even Hotmail I feel they are in it for the long haul.
Hope I making some sort of sense here, guys. It's the middle of the night here and I'm bloody tired.

Thing is, I don't trust Apple on stuff like this. In 2 or 3 years they may come up with another bright idea and drop support for @me.
But with Google or even Hotmail I feel they are in it for the long haul.

Won't that just cause more problems and create duplicate entries since my IP4 will sync with my Hotmail contact list?

I created an @me.com e-mail address just to be safe. I know Apple will continue to improve the product over time. However, I think it's just simply ludicrous for anyone to suggest that iCloud e-mail is better than Gmail and or Hotmail given that both Google and Microsoft have years of experience running their services.
I want to centralize all of my information as well and I've been doing that with Hotmail for a very long time. Despite what a lot of people say, Hotmail has improved dramatically over the years. It is comparable to Gmail now and Microsoft have spent a lot of resources on their products in response to Google. The problem is that trends change. Right now Apple products are in vogue and that's why we're using Apple devices. As a result it makes sense to also use Apple services as well. What if Microsoft becomes the next big thing in the near future? Are you going to change again? Besides, Hotmail synchronizes pretty well with iOS. I don't have any compelling reason to change solely to iCloud e-mail. I will use iCloud for its other features though.

Good point and I agree with you. I'm going to go with a wait and see attitude in regards to iCloud e-mail. There is no compelling reason to use iCloud e-mail over either Gmail and or Hotmail.
I recently got away from hotmail, hated it, mainly because it's UI is far too complex just for a simple email box, Gmail has the right balance and has just as many options as hot mail but in a more simple, user friendly form.
I love gmail, and i am still going to use it, but like you said, I want centralise all my information, Hopefully i cloud will do that for me. Bit annoyed at the moment though, the iCloud website is very slow and buggy at the moment for me. But it's still in the early stages.
If you have the same contact in multiple contact sources, and you display more than one source (as opposed to just displaying one), yes, you will get "duplicates". However, the solution is simple: "just don't do that". You either display only one contact source, or you put the contact in only one.
For me, I have contacts in both icloud and google, and some contacts exist in both. However, I never use google contacts (because it doesn't support contact groups on iOS), and so I only display the icloud contacts on my iPhone. Voila. No duplicates.
I'm using @me.com for my email address now. I have my gmail forwarding to me.com. I like having all my eggs in one basket.
