A case on a Macbook, iPad, or iPhone?

Especially on a Macbook... like c'mon man.

I don't care. People are free to buy what they wish. And I bet they'll shake their heads at me more for what I buy.

What's the point of buying all this beautiful hardware and then covering it up with ugly cases?

Some of us don't buy it for the "beautiful hardware." Some of us buy it because it can native boot all the big OS players.

Some people like to show off their individuality and since all MBP's look the same it's the perfect candidate.

I always think of cases going on Mac Books by two different people. The first is the total Mac head that wants to be different and the other is a switcher that is use of hiding his choice of computer and is afraid of be called something by his/her friends.

I'll tell you why some people use a case. One day, a guy decides to show his nice, expensive retina Macbook Pro off to his friends. They're all impressed with the screen, oogling over it. One of them says...

"Hey, Bob! You gotta see this"!
"Alright! Scoot it over to me"!

Guy then proceeds to push your Macbook across some gritty table, making horrible scratching noises in the process...

Which forces you to make a face like this:

So that's why most people use cases. It both protects their expensive stuff, and makes it easier to carry around.

Kinda reminds me of going to my Grandmothers house and seeing the plastic cover on all the furniture.

Kinda funny you brought this up. I'm totally with you on this one! But today I picked up a case for my cMBP 13" which is in perfect condition. No scratches or anything like that.

The reason I bought the case was only for one reason. The upcoming new rMBP's. I want my MacBook to be in tiptop condition when I'm gonna sell it, and since I'm going away for the weekend with my friends I didn't want to risk any scratches getting on it.

(I have to bring my MacBook for work purposes and could pick up a case for €7 so why not)

Anybody shakes their head when they see...

I have a plain black case on my MacBook for protection at work/school, so I don't have to worry about it. The glowing apple is also probably disruptive during lecture halls so that solves that.

Why would you shake your head at what others choose to do with their possessions? Idon't get it.

I have a black iPhone 5. I had it swapped because of the scuffs and scratches it would pick up so easily. I really wanted to protect the new one with a case but I decided against it. I just really don't like cases. I think they make the phone too bulky and take away from the beauty of the device. I still don't have a case on my iPhone 5 and when I see people with cases on theirs, I feel sad that all that wonderful design is trapped in a horrible plastic case.

Some people just want to protect their stuff. Oh well.

No. I've seen worse.

- People putting their feet on top of their MacBook like it's a stand.
- People cooking with their MacBook Pro right next to the stove.
- People leaving their MacBook Pro in the middle of the floor.
- And what I do... Walking around with it open with only your hand holding it by its edge.

My dog put a nice little ding on the lid the other day with his claw. It's alright though, I'm probably keeping it for five more years anyway. I generally never sell my stuff. Plus, I have bits of nail polish that fell off under the keyboard.

I don't like going case-less when I'm out and about, but I usually use the iPad without one. My iPods never have one.

I don't shake my head, I don't really care. I suppose it's a way of expressing yourself. Personally I just throw my MBP in my backpack without any protection. Then again, my MBP is also dinged, dented, and scratched up.

"Did you honestly just use the mouse to File>Save???"

...however once the honeymoon phase is over most people don't really give a crap about a few scratches on the bottom of their laptop.

I do, because...

A. I'm real anal retentive. You should see how often I wipe down the screen on my iPad. It's sad.

B. I might plan on selling it one day to help finance a new one. A near pristine condition laptop will sell quicker and (potentially) for more money than one with a few good scuffs and scratches.

This is especially true of Apple products, which even used cost a good deal of money, and, because of that, tend to lead people to expect a certain level of quality when it comes to their condition.

Agreed. People are free to do whatever they want with their possessions. Not sure why you get worked up about it OP.

No of course not, that would be silly. Why would I care about someone else's purchase decisions. Besides having a case is a smart move. I have a case on my phone, and iPad, though I do keep my MBP naked.

What makes me shake my head is cracked or scratched screens or scratched, gouged or bent aluminium. I shake my head at this quite often.
