It's not going to do any good on the front. The current screen is scratch resistant to the point where putting a protector on would just cause interference with the interface.
 
It would still work, might be a little trickier using your fingers on the screen depending on how smooth the protector is though.
 
I agree, the only way you will scratch the front is if you drop it onto concrete at a bus terminal and have a kid kick it down into the tracks... true story with my old Gameboy screen, go Austrian kids.
