Anybody used rEFIt boot loader with nMP and Bootcamp?

Hi

I have a nMP with Bootcamp Windows 8.1 and OSX but getting slightly peeved having to hold alt while booting for the menu, i keep forgetting.

So while looking for a solution came across this:

Anybody tried it on a new Mac Pro? Too risky?

Used it before. Useful and no issues I could see. Had to take it off before taking my old Mac for repair, because if they see you've modified the EFI, it'll void your warranty.

Um, how does modifying a partition on your hard drive void your hardware warranty? All rEFit / rEFInd does is enter itself into the hidden EFI partition at diskNs1 on your boot volume, it's entirely removable, and has nothing to do with the physcial EFI chip on the logic board.

Well when I took it in with rEFIt on it, the Apple Genius said that he couldn't service it because the EFI had been 'modified' in some way. Luckily he was happy to turn a blind eye and gave me an opportunity to remove it, then took it in for service.

I was only going on my own experiences to state that it may be best to remove it before taking it into an Apple Store, just to negate any potential problems.

I am currently using rEFIT with my nMP and I am very pleased with it. If you don't want to use it anymore, the only thing you have to do is to rename the EFI folder (EFI.bak for instance) and to restart the computer...very simple..

I have it running with a 10.9 partition and a 10.10. works fine.

Question to you guys that are running it:

Have any of you guys loaded Windows 7 successfully?

I know they dropped support for it, but has anyone got it to install successfully?

I get stuck at loading Windows files. It is the PCIe flash?

I tried repeatedly but failed, think they use 8's EFI setup and 7 EFI being half baked doesn't work.

The 8 setup really doesnt take long, all the updates then downloading 8.1 from the store. An 8 core 3.3 1tb with 64gb I reckon is the fastest install I've had on any pc, though I stick the power plan to high performance so the disk speed is pretty damned quick

rEFIT don't work consistently with yosemite in my nmp (often black screen during starup instead of the chooser). I now prefer using the Alt key which never fail...
