Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is a big big event. The keynote yesterday was just a presentation from the CEO of the company.
Over the next few days, there will be hands-on-labs, Apple gurus working with developers, conferences, meetings, lots of things planned for these developers.

The Keynote was for the media and consumers. It gives him a stage for product announcements much like how Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo do for E3. The rest of the week is for what the even really is, the developers. While we may not hear a bunch of news til the iPhone 4 launches, the developers are learning their brains out with iOS4 tips and tricks that they will implement for the launch of iOS4 and their respected apps.
