I have a 14in m1 pro mbp. I installed steam on it but it wont open, just fails and gives me some info in terminal about newer runtime..etc. anyone else able to get it to open?
didnt have a problem running it on my m1 mac (sold it though..and that was before I updated it to monterey)..wonder if Monterey is the issue. Anyone?

(apparently there was an update for monterey, I downloaded it..steam works now. can a mod delete this thread?)

I'm having this same issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, updated, restarted, taken down firewalls, deleted virus-detectors, etc. All still with the same result. I download Steam, move it to Applications (it asks if it's okay to open because it was downloaded off the internet, and I say yes) then the Steam icon bounces once, and that's it. No windows pop up about what's happening, it just won't do anything. It stays at a file size of 6.8mbs. I've reached out to both Apple and Steam support and neither of them can help me.

Hi again - finally got a helpful response from Steam and it worked! I'll throw the steps up here in case anyone else needs them. Especially since it took about 8 messages with them to get a helpful response.

They wrote:

Please do the following in order, which is known to resolve the issue you're experiencing:
  1. Exit Steam if you have it running
  2. Open Finder, then go to Applications
  3. Drag Steam to the Trash
  4. Go back to Finder, click "Go" on the menu bar at the top of your screen, then click "Go to Folder..."
  5. Copy and paste the following, then click Go:
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Steam
  6. Delete all of the files and folders in the /Steam folder except for /SteamApps
  7. Re-download Steam and reinstall the application
  8. Launch Steam.app from your Dock or Applications folder and re-test the issue

If the issue continues, please do the following:
  1. Open Finder
  2. Select "Applications"
  3. Right-click Steam > Show Package Contents
  4. Go to Contents > MacOS
  5. Run "steam_osx" to update and launch Steam
  6. Copy and paste the log from "steam_osx" in your next reply

Also, please locate and attach the bootstrap log on your system. The default location for this log is:

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/logs/bootstrap_log.txt
