I just bought a Logitech C920 to use with my 3D printer along with a Raspberry Pi. Everything works great on that end but I'd also like to be able to record video from my M1 MBA with Big Sur. I'm on the latest release 11.2 but I quickly discovered my newly purchased Logitech USB camera is literally useless to record video on my MBA. I went to Logitech's website and they do have some sort of software package that does activate the webcam when you're using this program. But this program is useless because all it does is allows you to change the camera's settings but nothing more. I tried to use Quicktime and it doesn't see the webcam.

So, has anyone been able to use a newer Logitech webcam with their Big Sur Mac? If so, what's your secret?

What software would you like to use to record with your webcam?

When you say the camera is useless, do you mean that the video never turns on (so you can see whatever is in view of the camera?)

Is your Logitech C920 showing as a camera in your System Information/Camera tab? On your MBAir, you should see both the built-in Facetime camera, and the Logitech (when it is plugged in, of course) The Logitech will also be listed under USB.
Does your Logitech webcam work with the PhotoBooth app? That's in your applications folder.
I have an inexpensive Aukey USB 1080p webcam, which works great with Big Sur.
I use Photobooth for the videos that I make for various presentations, etc. That app is pretty basic for recording videos, but the videos always turn out well for me.
I use the same webcam with Zoom. I don't have any problems with the video booted to Big Sur.
I don't have an M1 MBAir, still on Intel.

Ok, this is weird. My C920 wasn't an option to use with Photobooth yesterday. I then found some settings software on Logitech's website and now I can choose the C920 as an option in Photobooth. Weird....

So my next question is, I see that iMovie is able to record video through my MBA's built-in webcam. Is there any way to choose my Logitech webcam instead?

Thanks for this. I couldn't figure out why mine wasn't working but downloading the Software Settings for my model fixed it.

What is the software package you found for changing settings? I could use that.

I am using a Logitech camera, with Big Sur 11.4.

I will add, to me, the quality is POOR! Then again, thus far, I have only used it with FaceTime, not Microsoft Teams, or even Zoom...

PS: From within the Mac OS, is there a way to confirm the model of the camera? I checked System Information, in Utilities, and it yielded nothing. I do see: UVC Camera VendorID_1133 ProductID_2057 - but, no idea what model camera it is.

It should be above the vendorid and productid you pasted, but it seems your description is "UVC camera" only.

Unfortunately I cannot find any webcam with that data.
A picture of the webcam and how it's connected (usb?) may be useful to identify it.

Also, if I purchased a 1080p camera, and used it with FaceTime, would I get 1080p quality?
Considering Apple only offer 720 on their MBA/MBP, hence my question. Thanks all...

I have a very similar camera, my has the following product id

UVC Camera VendorID_1133 ProductID_2470

and I still own the original box so I'm pretty sure that it is a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro
Curious, have you tried it on your M1, or even via FaceTime? If so, decent quality, or?

Sorry, mine is a 2018 (i7) Mac mini.
And I used the cam just sometimes with Skype/Teams but never with FaceTime.

I hadn't any issue with my webcam, Logitech C270. It works perfectly, just like it should. I've chosen it after short comparison I've got to read here ( weblink: https://www.techvert.com/logitech-c270-vs-c525/ ). Author explained a lot of pros and cons of each webcam model, and why you should get one or another one model for your specific IT needs.

I have two Logitech C615 cameras, one on my MBP and one on my iMac. They work fine without loading any additional drivers. Logitech has the camera control program for them available for download.

I use a Brio with both FaceTime and Slack every work day. The camera has worked reliably so far with Big Sur and Monterey except for a single issue that required a reboot.
