Apparently, the Hotel Pennsylvania is going to be torn down sometime in the next year, so the folks at 2600 Magazine have dubbed this year's Hackers On Planet Earth conference "The Last HOPE", though no one is sure at this point if it is, in fact, the last one.

aww i was thinking about going :) but i decided money would be better spent going to defcon, since i live on the west coast and all.

I'm an east-coaster so HOPE it was for me! :)

C|Net's coverage is actually pretty extensive, which is surprising - I don't remember them covering HOPE in this detail before. I guess all the talk about it being "The Last (as in Final) HOPE" got them to pay attention.

So naturally...

They announced "The Next HOPE - Summer 2010"; according to the 2600 boys the owners of the Hotel Pennsylvania decided to change their plans "in light of the bad economy" and will not be tearing the old place down. (Hopefully they *will* fix the awful roof leaks and other significant problems the place has!)

That place really does need to be torn down. Mold in the rooms is a pretty good indicator that it's past it's prime.

They do have cheap rooms though! LOL
