This looks like a good deal for a 15" MBP with an extra gig of RAM:

http://www.expercom.com/product_detail.html?PRODUCT_ID=388903

and the company has pretty good ratings:

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2182.html

and no #@$^$#(&@^ rebate! :D

Not a lot of ratings though, so thought I'd try to see if anyone here has used them. I need to order in the next day or two for delivery by June 8.

Also, I bet the extra gig of RAM they include would not be paired with the 512MB chip installed. Would that alone make you reconsider?

Three out of the seven people rating them had "pricing errors" and the product is currently back ordered.

I'd probably stay away.

You did check with Apple to see if they are an authorized dealer, yes?
It appears as if they have B&M stores in Utah - you may want to verify that.

The resellerratings is inconclusive. Three of the four positives have shill-ish fanboi language. The three complaints about not honouring a price on a DVD drive sound to me possible that the company made a one-time mistake on advertising (like, typed in $29 instead of $92 on the Website) and the raters are raking them over the coals because they didn't get something for nothing like they hoped.

-- An advertisement, in actuality, is not an offer for sale, and does not legally oblige the seller to sell the product at the advertised price.

Expercom is the best. I have ordered over 20 macs from them over the years. I have never had any issues. Just give them a call, they actually have a human pickup the phone!! Seriously, ask for Roger, he is a great guy and easy to deal with.

Thanks.

Crap, last time I checked that thing was in stock. Sure, I'll call them and confirm that price and that it can be delivered by the 8th.

so is your name roger?:D

Seriously, make sure they are authorized by Apple to sell. why are you wanting to buy from them in particular? If you ask me, i would not take a chance on it- I buy only from well known retailers and e-tailers.

Expercom's brick-and-mortar stores are authorized Apple dealers.

Sorry, my name is Brandon. But, here are some of my successful orders over the last year. They have never let me down yet... Also, I have been around macrumors since 02 and would not lead anyone astray.

If anyone has a better suggestion for a place to order, I'm all ears. It just needs to be as inexpensive as possible, strongly preferrably without rebates as it would be a pain in the arse to get them cashed from overseas (I do have a US address, but the check would have to go through a long process to reach me where I will be in a couple months for signing, then back to my bank!)

It's just that I've looked at several places listed on dealmac.com, checked their ratings, and ExperCom is one of the few that I'm cofortable with after all that. B&H would be great, but there's no discount or special deal with them.

Hey, Expercom is located here in Utah where I am. I actually bought my 1.8 Ghz PowerMac from them a couple of years ago. Almost got my dualie from them, too.

So, they're certainly legit and I don't know of any local word on the street that says otherwise.

Try macmall.com they have $150 off on MBP. I've always had good luck with these guys. My sister-in-law just got her MB from there. There is a mail in rebate though...

MacMall has quite dismal ratings on resellerratings, but as one person said, that may not tell the whole story. And the rebate sucks. But can you tell me how long the rebate check lasts before it expires? If it's 90 days, I might be OK. 60 might not be enough time for it to make the necessary trip to the Ecuadorian jungle and back to my bank in Colorado ...

I've never actually bought anything at ExperCom, except perhaps some small iPod accessory, can't remember for sure. Anyway, I do occasionally go into their Salt Lake store just to look around, and they're really nice. I would certainly not hesitate to do business with them.

They told me by email today that the model I linked to that's "out of stock" arrives nearly every day. So I'm gonna order it from them tomorrow.

Order placed. I'm so far pleased with the sales experience. Most of the complaints have been regarding inaccurate prices on their website, but I was sold the book at the expected price and he said it would ship Tuesday. (Could "probably" have shipped today but I voluntarily delayed it since I can't get it till June 8 anyway.) The sales process was quick and efficient. Good price, no rebate crap.

Will let you know if there is any trouble, but I so far think ordering from them was a good choice.

Update: Laptop arrived on time, shipping only took a day by ground from IL to IN. (They had told me it would take a couple days.) The only minor complaint is that the RAM was shipped from UT and took 6 days to arrive. That was not a problem, but could have been, since I was only at my shipping address for one night. I ordered early enough that the RAM had arrived before I did, but if I had ordered it that same week, taking their word that it would be delivered in 2 days, that could have been a problem.

The book itself (low end 15") seems to be flawless. No unusual or annoying noises. Gets a little warm but not bad.

Overall, ExperCom will be at or near the top of my list when I get a new 17" MBP next year!
