Anyone buying Airpods with Amex Warranty?

Is anyone getting Airpods with the AMEX warranty? They double your Manufacturer's Warranty so essentially you're covered with a battery replacement for 2 years.

I can't decide if I should do this or use my Best Buy card to get some points back for my purchase.

Thoughts?

That's a good idea actually. Amex also has 90-day accident protection and return protection, so you're covered for a lot of different scenarios

I used my Amex for this reason. Extended warranty (+1 year) and 90 day purchase protection.

I used my AmEx, I always purchase electronic products on my AmEx for this reason. I only charged $73 to my card as I had a $100 gift card from Apple to use.

I lucked out and caught the 2nd wave of Best Buy shipping in two days. Will be here on Thursday and did use an Amex.

Don't forget Citi Cards offer 2 year extended warranty, if the manufacture warranty is 1 year they cover the next 2 years. But the Amex warranty is a piece of cake to use they take care of their customers.

You are and you aren't. The way AMEX does this is if your product is eligible for warranty repair (you didn't drop them in the toilet) then AMEX refunds the full purchase price. They are supposed to ask for the product to be shipped to them but they haven't done this (that I've heard) in many, many years. So you just end up keeping the product and getting a new replacement or have the old ones repaired on your on.

I have a friend that had three iPhone 5 have button issues and he got full refunds on all of them. They were AT&T contract so his full refund was $400 each. He ended up taking them to a shop to get them fixed for cheap.

Also FYI if setting up AMEX as Apple Pay all benefits still apply.

False. They will cover up to how much you paid on the product. For example, iPhones that are bought on contract = $300, I got reimbursed the $300 Plus tax.

That is correct because the contract is considered full price to them (see my example of my friends 3 iPhones). You cannot split the charge in any way with another credit card or gift card. The full charge has to be only made with the AMEX. They have been very strict with this in the past.

Don't try to get smart. Read the rules. No where does it state I have to charge the full amount to the card. Any ways, I used the Amex in cases of an individual item getting damaged, I am not looking for a full refund. The replacement parts are $69 or $49 something like that.

I went through this with them for a pair of Sennheiser headphones that I used a $50 gift card and the rest was on my AMEX. They denied my warranty coverage and I've been a VERY good customer for 25 years. Hey I hope you're right if you need it but that's what happened to me

FYI I just followed up with AMEX. You are 100% correct. They will cover the portion charged even if it's partial. I am having them review my old claim. Hopefully the fine print was the same back 4 or 5 years ago.

Didn't buy with my AMEX, but with my Capital One card that does the same. Nice to have that extra year just incase.

I've actually had a combination of things including iPhones. Sometimes they have refunded the purchase price, and sometimes they have said simply go out and purchase a new same device and send in the receipt and they have credited the complete purchase price to the card

I think it would be a great idea for Apple to cover AirPods under Apple Care+ that is purchased for an iPhone 7 or 7+ (or any future iPhone that is missing the headphone jack) Maybe even make it so you can buy the iPhone later, similar to the way they cover Airport devices under your Mac's Apple Care (even if you bought the Airport up to two years prior to the Mac - some staff doesn't know this, but I did and got my Time Capsule replaced).

They could even offer a slightly reduced AirPods parts replacement cost if you have Apple Care for a qualifying iPhone.

One of the nice additional perks of the amex warranties (check your specific card for details) on the plat and business amex, is the extended return periods. I tried to return some items to apple last year, outside the return window. They in the end accepted them back as I had bought with the amex plat card and that extends the return period up to 90 days (with a cap of 300$ per item) but these items were less than that. Apple took them back, but AMEX would have just refunded the money if they hadn't. So, keep track of things like that. There ARE exclusions, but they are pretty transparent and obvious.

Yes. That's all I would need covered in the case if I lose any one of the 3 components.
