Honestly, why wouldnt they? They sell more phones. The same exploit is found in the new hardware in the 3Gs... this doesnt happen without them allowing it. They are def sticking it to AT&T with this ;)

Where did you read that the same exploit was found in the 3GS?

I just saw a thread about that too with the 3Gs.

I think while the love controlling everything about the iPhone, having this allows a bigger market (without breaking away from AT&T) and definitely creates a huge used-iPhone market.

Look at how many people are selling their older iPhones to get the new ones!

You're mistaking jailbreaking for unlocking.

Unlocking can really only help Apple. Jailbreaking hurts them because people can download apps for free.

The dev team could be apple employees to bring extra buzz around the iphone!

wouldn't surprise me what apple would do for extra profit lol

plausible. Did you see the length of the encryption keys

but then again, why keep up the cat and mouse game.

Why introduce more advanced protections.

I just want my 3Gs JB :D

Perhaps, in the long run, it's beneficial to Apple. It gives people a reason to consider an iPhone and therefore, purchase one and gives Apple marketshare. Which is what they're ultimately after, right? If not, then, maybe it's just a couple of Apple employees trying to create even more buzz about the iPhone, like someone mentioned <-- (highly unlikely however) Cheers to the Dev-Team for their work though!

i saw an article way back about how the costs of maintaining the app store and advertising exceeds the money coming in from it. i think apple sees the app store as a selling point for iphones not as a source of profit. i also read that they are making tons of money from developers who are buying macs in order to develop apps. this was all speculation but it seems reasonable.

JB, probably. Unlocking, yes.

Why and how, who knows for sure? Are they living it up, yes.
