Anyone ditched iPhone and went Verizon Android smartphone + iPod Touch route?

I lasted about 2 months on a Droid. I didn't care for it, and ported back for my iPhone 3G.

I'd be interested in knowing some of the things that drew you back. The Droid looks very nice, but I haven't used it (my wife has a new one, though), but it would be nice to know what the essential differences are for those who have chosen one or the other after using both.

I thought I would love having the hardware keyboard, yet, I barely ever used it. The on screen keyboard in portrait mode was awful in my opinion. The keys were too small. It also lacks multi-touch keyboard. some people say with the latest update it was enabled, but I still had issues typing. I could fly on my iPhone, but had to learn to slow down my typing because the phone couldn't keep up.

I also found the apps to be troublesome. I would constantly get wait or force close error messages because an app stopped responding, including the built-in apps. There are replacement apps for just about everything (Home, SMS, Browser...) but I would still get the force close messages.

I'm not totally against the Droid or Android OS, but I think it has a little ways to go before I can commit to carrying one.

One of my favorite apps which I hated giving up by going back to the iPhone was Locale. It could control a lot of the settings on the phone based on different conditions: time, location, battery level.

I had a work profile setup to switch the phone to silent and turn off WiFi during work hours. Another to turn off all sounds but the phone ringtone at night. Another profile to disable GPS, WiFi, and dim the screen brightness to the lowest level once the battery level was down to 40%. The app could even change the background.

I went to the droid and use my 3Gs as a glorified iPod. If the iPhone comes to Verizon, I might consider it. However, the droid makes the iPhone look like a cheap toy.

Sure the iPhone has a billion potential apps... But lets be honest.. Besides games, how many apps do you actually use? I narrowed it down to 6 that I actually used that werent stock apps.

All of those apps are on the Droid. I dont need or want a phone to play games. If I wanted that, Id play the xbox or wii.

Never had any of those issues. I also type just as fast on it as the iPhone, and I like the pullout keyboard as well. To each their own.
