Just wondering what I could expect if I traded in an older iMac.

I shouldn’t have looked at the new ones. I haven’t had an iMac in several years (using iPP for my main device), but I DO have my daughter’s older iMac here, and I’m thinking we could trade it in, and get something new.

How old is the iMac? In general, trade in will not be as much as you can get privately. If we're talking 2008 or 2009 I could see it being difficult to sell privately and make the hit on trade in value be worth avoiding the headache of finding a private buyer (especially if it's just a base model and/or not in perfect condition anymore).

got $660 for my (2015) macbook pro... happy with that.

follow the prompts to see your mac’s estimated worth (when you go to put a new mac in the cart...)

Honestly, I am not positive. I’ll have to turn it on and look at the model. It probably is 9-10 years old.

A quick look on eBay and craigslist, as well as non-Apple trade in sites shows 2008 iMacs going for under $100 in great condition. Even with maxed out factory specs, they're going for $150 or less it appears. Wouldn't be surprised to see Apple offer less than $50. If you were hoping it would make a significant dent towards the cost of another machine then I think you'll end up disappointed either way.

I bought a 2011 iMac for $200 (several years ago), upgraded to a 500 gig SSD and 16 gigs ram and I'm still using it as a daily machine at home.

Didn’t expect it to make a significant dent for sure - just curious if it would make any dent at all. ;-p

In all likelihood I won’t even buy a new one. I haven’t had an iMac in quite a few years, and I really do just fine with my iPP, but the new ones sure look pretty!

I've seen some of your posts in the iPad forums and it seems you're really happy with the iPad for your workflow. Being honest, I'd pass on it knowing that if you decide in a month, 6 months, a year, or longer, that you want an iMac again, they'll still be there, and if anything, be cheaper to pick up used. I do like the current design, but it is the same design you've resisted for 7 years prior. If the rumored redesign happens next year, you may like that one even more.

I have a late 2009 C2D that I upgraded to 8 gig of ram and use it every day, run Excel, Word, Mail, Team Viewer and Win10 with Parralells no problem. The only thing I can't do now is run Mojave. BTW what's an IPP?

I think they are offering a bit under $500 for my 2013. I am completely fine with the offer but I am going to wait till WWDC19 to complete to see if there are any Mac Pro announcements. I would pay more to have a headless Mac I could change components on. While I love my iMac I have more than one machine on my desktop and could save space and money by sharing screens and other easily shareable components.

Honestly I'd consider selling it on your own. Phobio took in an old laptop of mine offering $135, once they had the laptop they revised the refund down to $35 saying there's a display problem. I had them return it and there was no display problem. It feels like a bait and switch.

Looking around it sounds like other people have had their offers greatly reduced with Phobio claiming the product arrived damaged. If you do decide to use the trade-in, I would take pictures and video of your laptop working before sending it in.

Apple offered the best deal on a 2014 iMac trade. I did not even trade when I made the purchase. Traded a week later. I could have sold on my own, but after shipping and fees well did not make sense.

My unit did have the dust under glass issue, but they accepted it. I rated my condition without regard to this issue since its a known Apple flaw.

Two nephews and one niece going to college this fall. Sold them the gift card for 10% less.
