I am going to be purchasing a new MBP in a few weeks, and one of the things I want to do with it is edit video. I want to take VHS tapes and footage from my DVR and transfer it to the MBP and then edit. What is the cheapest, best option (quality) for me?

I have just found the Eyetv and that looks like it will do the job, I just want to see if there are any cheaper options. (Eyetv costs $130)
I have also looked for tv tuner cards for the expresscard 34 slot, but haven't seen much.

Any feedback is appreciated.

If you have a FW camcorder that accepts video input, that's the cheapest way. Obviouslly, getting DV into the computer from the camcorder is easy enough, but with a video input, you just connect your VCR to the camcorder, and the Camcorder acts as a capture card and sends the video straight into the computer via Firewire.

I'm doing this now on my Powerbook, and I specifically chose an inexpensive DV camcorder with a video input feature for this task.

Thanks for the reply.

What does FW stand for?

I do not have a camcorder, only a digital camera, and I am guessing that does not have video input.
