Lots of questions.
Did you use an Apple spec'ed replacement CPU?
Did it work right away, fire up with no issues/tweaks needed?
What did you have, and what did you upgrade to?
Where did you get the CPU?
The process is different than other iMacs, obviously, but getting into it is the same, the sticky foam tape. (Magnets seem so much better)
Thanks... Thinking about swapping my 8-core for some more horsepower.
The non-Apple spec chips seem to run a little hotter. I didn't know if Apple set a trap and has some code on their spec'ed CPU's for people that try to upgrade with the 'standard' chips. A couple articles I read talked about how the rating for the chips is based on the lowest clock speed, and they usually run at their max, so it's not necessarily a deal breaker using a standard chip, and they should be more readily available even.
Just don't want to get down the road on this and find out it's borked...
