Anyone Dumped 2011 Mini & went back to 2010 Mini bc of Lion

Ok, so a lot of apps I have do not work in Lion, and since I use my Mini for everything from basic PC to full blown iTunes Library,and media converter, I am thinking of selling the 2011 Base Mini and going back to my 2010 Mini Loaded with 2.66 etc. I love SL, I am not fond of Lion, however I am not sure what the next release of OSX will be so wondering if it will get better or worse going forward?

Anyone else in the same boat or made the same decision?
 
I would go back to the 2010 mini in a heartbeat if I only could: I need the extra data speed from the Sandy Bridge. I do not like Lion (I did not like Snow Leopard either but I liked it better than Lion) and am running Windows 7 in bootcamp.

IMHO the writing is on the wall that OS X is morphing into iOS and that OS I like even less so it looks that with the no backwards compatibility I'll be forced to move to another manufacturer. Unfortunately there is not much available in the small Mac mini form factor that has the same low noise level. What makes it worse that there is limited choice in our country otherwise I would seriously consider the ASrock Vision 3D. ( I need hardware support....)
 
I thought about buying one of the 2010 Minis from the refurb store when they showed up a week or so ago. I just didn't feel like it was a big enough improvement over my late 2009 Mini to justify the purchase. I really want the speed of an i5 Mini, but I really don't want Lion.
 
For a Mac n00b such as myself... enlighten me as to what I missed by not buying a Mac during the Tiger, Panther, or Leopard days?

Some apps are PowerPC apps designed to run on legacy hardware. Leopard was the final OS for PowerPC Macs and the Intel version included Rosetta an emulator to run PowerPC apps. This emulator became optional in Snow Leopard and is no longer available in Lion. Those who have made significant investments in software that is written for PowerPC may find having to pay for upgrades to software (or ditch software if upgrades are not available) an unpalatable choice.

As always some users find a new OS to be a memory hog and not as reliable as an earlier version or makes uncomfortable changes in the UI.

You would have gained a machine that you could have squeezed a 2 year longer experience out off (assuming both have the same life expectancy). I do like not having a seperate power brick.
 
Refurbs now despite what may be said on the Apple Store ship with Lion. So you would've had to find a way to get SL disks if you wanted to run that on them.

I have two 2009 Minis and a 2011 Mini. I've updated all to Lion and not planning on downgrading however I may do a clean install at some point (I have had some problems but they may be fixed by software updates).

I received my 2010 refurb about 10 days ago. Shipped with SL, not Lion.

Was also promised the 'up to date' download code in 48 hrs. It's been almost 2 weeks. But that is for another thread...
 
Oh well decided to stick with the 2010 Mini until something else comes out down the road, I like it, and it works for what I do, however I will miss the Encoding speed of the base 2011 as it does do that quicker, but most of my encoding is in HB and I run this overnight, so no biggie.

eBay here comes my stock 2011 Base Mini :rolleyes:

By reverting to an older model and an older operating system, you aren't making things easier for yourself; you only think you are because of your immediate needs. Mac OS X 10.8 (or any other future version) isn't going to support any of your unsupported applications on 10.7, either. Reverting is a temporary solution, and the longer you wait to upgrade, the more expensive it will become to replace all your then unsupported software with newer versions. Snow Leopard will become entirely unsupported and unproductive in the future (not that distant future) just like 10.5, 10.4, 10.3, and so on and so forth have now all become.

Out of curiosity, did you not check before purchasing if your software was supported by 10.7?

They have some 2010 refurbished Mini's at the Apple store as I write this, the 2.4ghz for $469.00.
 
Someone on another thread I think was also stating the new Refurbs are coming with Lion, but that is not the case for the C2D models, I got my C2D 2.66 with SL not Lion :rolleyes:

How long does it normally take for Apple to drop support on an OS, only because I will use SL until I can get new apps to work in Lion, but for now, I like SL, but getting some funky things happening with Lion.
 
That's interesting. I had read that refurbs were now coming with Lion. Don't be surprised if you buy a refurb only to receive Lion on it though as Apple could easily decide to start doing that.
 
I can verify that as of last week, the 2010 refurb Minis are coming with Snow Leopard. My 2.4 came with it, made me happy since I'm going HTPC with it.
