My iPad Pro 10.5 continues to act buggy more and more each day. Now I’m experiencing bugs every hour. I just had to force-restart it twice within 1 hour because of freezing. Originally when i bought it 4-5 months ago it worked fine and its always up to date.. but it has become so unstable that I feel like throwing it into the trash. It freezes all the time, and then the power or home button do set work unless I hold them down both, but it continues to play whatever YouTube video I was watching. I also cannot scroll properly anymore, it’s as if “pro-motion” is disabled and lagging more than my original air. If I’m scrolling down it wont always react to my finger scrolling up before it has completed the previous gesture. When I originally bought it, it would auto-rotate an app without issues but now when I open an app like YouTube it wont rotate to the way I’m holding it. It stays in the rotation it was in last used. I literally have to rotate it all around before it adjust itself.. I’m even struggling to write this now, and the keyboard doesn’t always reach to certain letters (touch) such as letters e. It also right now tries to cancel the “force curser” with the 2 fingers.. I think the updates has made it worse.

Anyone else experience issues like these?

Yes, I was experiencing issues and have since done a fresh install, as suggested above - setup as new. Crossing my fingers, I think the problem has been resolved.

That's odd. Regardless of updates it shouldn't be behaving like that. Yes, I adhere to others, try a fresh install. That said, any bugs and lag induced on my previous iPad had been due to updating to the garbage that iOS 7 was. Running original version (iOS 9) on a 9.7 iPad Pro flawlessly.

I would contact Apple and have the device checked. Prior to doing that, set up the device as new without restoring a backup. If the issues persist it’s likely hardware related.

My 10.5 has been flawless from day of purchase.

No doubt, Tina, there is a problem with your device. Restoring to new and entering your software slowly might tell if hardware or not.

Totally agree.

My primary perosnal tablet at home is an iPad Pro 10.5" running iOS 11.3.1 and has no problems like that. However, I've only had it since early April but it's always been running on iOS 11.x.x.

I have a ton of iOS devices at work including an iPad Pro 10.5" running iOS 11.2+ and another running 10.3.3. Neither has ever had such issues.

I'm having similar issues. My iPad Pro 10.5 was fine for months, but in the past few days it's been freezing/restarting 2-3 times per day.
It happened while on Kindle, Youtube and Safari, so nothing too demanding. The device will slow down considerably for 30-60 seconds, and then it will go to a black screen with the rotating loading logo, and then restart.
When it happened on Youtube it was like OP described: the device was completely unresponsive but the video kept playing normally for a good 30 seconds before the iPad restarted.
Guess I'll try setting it up as new..

Please let me know how it goes :) if you have any success I may have to try.. it’s grueling to move and Re-add everything back that’s not iCloud supported

I am having screen issues where I cannot scroll down a certain web page (or touching said page freaks the iPP out and the page it jitters constantly). Never happened prior to 11.3.1.

I think it’s software related.

If this continues, I will take it to Apple in a month. Need it for uni right now, so cannot be without it.

I had those unresponsive and reboot issues too, but they seem to have stopped.

Wish everyone luck with their iPad Pro-blems

Update, I had to do a DFU last night because iOS 11.3.1 pretty much destroyed Promotion in Safari to where I could not get homework done, because the web page froze in place and kept stuttering.

Realize I will just have to save my artwork and Procreate videos to my computer, ditto my schoolwork on Notability.

If it continues with iOS 11.4, not sure what I will do.

I’ve had a couple instances of weirdness on my 10.5 on iOS 11.4. Weirdness includes a rotation issue and unresponsive waking. It hasn’t been a big enough problem for me to go through the trouble of wiping the device. No scrolling issues for me.

yes ipp 12.9” 2nd.. touchscreen issues and laggy everywhere (browser, games...).

iPad Pro 12” 2017, I have. Yes, though I couldn’t pinpoint what the bugs are because I don’t care becaue that brings back the Windows experience to me.

Nothing for me, been solid since day 1. I would restore and set up as new first, but if it keeps happening - obviously bring it in to Apple.

My 10.5” has been a dream since day 1 and I’m not experiencing any deal breaking bugs at all. My original unit did end up having a shoddy battery, but Apple replaced it, and that unit has been running perfectly too.

I have tried everything including restoring as new and its still lagging. Sometimes it doesn’t respond for 10 seconds or so and then it’s fine for a day. The thing is it’s 15 months old now and out of warranty so it would be expensive to repair And bearing in mind that I want to get a new iPad in a few months time it just doesn’t seem worth getting it fixed. Having said that I’ve had the problem for for five months now so I might give Apple a call tomorrow and see if they will replace it

I have a Genius appointment tomorrow as they are going to do a hardware test.
It will be interesting to see if they replace it free of charge if it is a hardware issue as it’s out of warranty but I have had the fault for several months now and spent considerable time trying to identify the issue

Interesting... a guy there said this
Staring sometime after I upgraded to IOS 11.4 or possibly 11.4.1 on my iPad Pro 9.7, I began to get quite frequent screen freezes. They would usually occur when trying to navigate in Twitter or Feedly. Nothing but restarting would unfreeze the screen. Sometimes, the iPad would restart itself after a short time but usually I had to press the power and home buttons to make it restart. That would fix it for a while, but then it would happen again.

Although I have no freezing problems w/my iPad Pro 10.5" w/iOS 11.4, I sometimes had similar problems w/my iPhone 8 on iOS 11.4. That phone NEVER had this issue with any previous version of iOS 11.x. Basically, more than once already, if I had Waze running (possibly switched to its sleep mode already) and I shut off my car (head unit paired to my phone), my iPhone 8 would be stuck w/the screen and all buttons totally unresponsive. Wouldn't respond to taps, pressing the home button would result in tactile feedback but not action (of going to home). Press sleep/wake or even holding it down wouldn't help.

Eventually, some events would go through I and might be at home or another app but I can't put the device to sleep and it was still unresponsive. After a few minutes, it seems like ALL the queued up events go through rapidly and things are ok again.

I totally forgot about the sequence to force restart a device being different on iPhone 8 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201412) until it happened another time. I then forcibly reset it.

I ended up upgrading my iPhone 8 to iOS 11.4.1 in the hopes it fixes this bug.

I’m on my second iPad Pro. I have the 12.9. I love the big size of it. They replaced my first one because it
froze on me to much. This second one I think was replaced in the spring. It has been freezing on and off for
about 1.5 months. I updated it recently to see if it would help with the freezing but it seems to be worse now.
This is the first Apple tablet I’ve had problems with. I had an iPad 2, mini 4, and air 2, all with no problems.
