I've had an iphone since uk launch last November. But just recently I've started getting pins and needles in my fingers after maybe 20 minutes use. I always hold my phone in my left hand and type or doing anything else with my right.
Anyone else get this?

Try moving a little while you talk on the phone. Or shorten your conversations. If your arms are falling asleep holding the phone to your head, you should consider some kind of handsfree device like a bluetooth headset or the included earbuds.

Pins and Needles?
Americanize for me please...

That is americanized... I can't believe you've never heard of that expression.

Pins and needles is the sensation when your leg or foot falls asleep and you feel that tingling all over until it goes away. Usually it's a result of a temporary restricted blood flow or pinched nerve. I usually get it when I rest my head on my arm and have my elbow pressed up against something, causes my fingers to start getting the pins and needles feeling.

redgaz26, pay close attention to your posture and the position of your arm as those are the most likely culprits. If you're going to use your iPhone for an extended period of time find a position that feels more comfortable for you.

doesn't happen if I'm on a call happens if I'm on the web or using an app for to long

I think he means he's getting pins & needles in his fingers after using the touch screen, not in his arm after holding the phone.

If that's the case, it's happened to me too... just something about the tactile sensation of the screen... maybe stop using it when it happens.

I've noticed that when I'm holding the phone with two hands and playing a game or something. As if the prolonged bending of the elbows is somehow cutting off circulation to your fingers? That's the only explanation I can offer:confused:

I think you're hitting the screen too hard for your particular hands and pain receptors. Remember, the screen does not work based on pressure. You don't have to hit it with any force at all. I'd give a try for training your fingers to hit the screen less forcefully. Perhaps also try not holding your fingers at a normal angle to the screen (that is, hold your finger straight so it's almost parallel to the screen and touch the screen with the pad of your fingertip (where the fingerprint is) rather than the very tip (i.e. don't use the part that's right at the very tip of the finger between the nail and the pad).

The minor possibility also I'd suggest is that you're building up an electrical charge on the surface, although it doesn't sound like you're describing

Yes, I get it in my right arm and hand when I lay back and surf the web a lot.

I finally realized it's because I'm holding it up to my head with my left hand, but my right arm is sharply bent at the elbow, doing the flicking etc. So the sharp bend cuts off the blood flow.

Need to move the device and your arms around.

It doesn't help that Apple left out any way to quickly get to the bottom (or any part) of a page or document. Worst UI I've ever seen in that department. It just screams out for either a scroll bar or a page index, or a cursor button with repeat.

I'm pretty sure that being "on pins and needles" is an expression for being nervous or something. Although a limb or digit "falling asleep" can give the sensation of feeling pins and needles.

Everyone here has been having great fun at your expense. But I do know what you are talking about. I had always carried my phones in my right pocket and that leg has a numb spot there now. I have to carry my iphone in my left pocket now. You are probably very sensitive to electrical and other energy waves. can you hear the whine of a tv or other electrical appliance if its on? the iphone has a very high energy output. from the edge to the hsdpa or what that means is the gsm waves and the wcdma waves.

sounds like some kind of tunnel syndrome ( nerve impingement)

If your index and thumb are tingly you have median nerve impingement ( carpal tunnel )

If your pinky and ring finger are tingly you have ulnar nerve impiggement ( cubital tunnel)

If the outside of your elbow is tingly ( not as common) you have radial nerve impingement

However without a full physical/history its hard to determine if this could be caused by sometime like diabetic neuropathy, poor circulation, cervical plexus impingement, etc

Hope that helps

<cough> Rubbish <cough>. Unless of course you have a link to a peer-reviewed scientific paper in a reputable journal demonstrating this phenomenon? Didn't think so....

No it doesn't. It's not even in the top 10 radiation-emitters in the US cellphone market.

Pins and needled

I get pins and needles in the tips of my fingers when using the phone, worse particularly when surfing the net. Gets worse as I continue using and eventually disappears when I put phone down. Made me concerned enough to google the problem and see if their was a known issue with the phone. At first I thought I had carpal tunnel syndrome (I'm a doctor)- but noticed it's only when using phone (no matter how I hold it), and I had no problems with 3GS. I think this is a very real concern- can't even use my phone for long period without regular brakes as the pins and needles become unbearable!
