This is the second time this has happened, once each on the latest two public betas.

This last time, I was leaving a parking garage, and the notification popped up that my AirPods Pro had been left behind. They were in the handle of my car, so I pulled over and opened them, connecting them to my iPhone, but the notification stayed.

When I got home, I checked Find My, and they were correctly shown as with me.

I submitted a ticket, but I’m curious if I’m alone.

I have an old iPhone X that I carry with me. If I turn it on, let it connect and update apps, turn it off, then leave that location, my iPhone 13 tells me seemingly every time that I left the iPhone X behind. BUT I TURNED IT OFF BEFORE LEAVING!

It's not hard to see the logic fail there. When a device is powered down, it should tell Find My that it is being shut down. Then the last known location should be marked - period. It can't be inferred that the device was left behind when it is turned off (this changed somewhat on iPhone 13s (and maybe earlier) in that they can still report their location when turned off, kind of like they have built-in AirTag functionality).

iPhone X & iPad Pro 5th Gen. when traveling in rv, I get these notifications all them time as I usually leave my iPad in the RV but take my iPhone when I’m out of the rv. However, at home where I have homepods & apple tv, I never get these alerts When the iPad is left at home and I have the phone with me.

Yeah I get it all the time. Its yet another bug in the endless amount of bugs in iOS.

Yep same here. Just had it happen today actually. AirPods Pro left behind but they were in my pocket the whole time.

I remember once I was in an airport. Every time I walked around it told me my MacBook Pro was left behind about 4 times. Gave me a heart attack every time but it was in my backpack.

I'm thinking about turning these off. I do have OCD when it comes to forgetting things that to see this notification about something like AirPods even though I have them with me might really stress me out. It's a good idea, but I don't know if the extra stress is warrented.

I got that once for my iPad in September. We were on holiday and driving back home from it. 10 minutes into the journey it said that I'd left my iPad behind. Not wanting to risk it, I got my family to stop the car and check, but it was with me. I'd updated my iPhone to iOS 16, but my iPad was still on 15.

Are those AirPods Pro gen 1 or gen 2?

I always got bogus left behind notice for the gen 1s since they had no location awareness and no persistent wireless connection to the phone. that and it would only warn me 15 minutes after I had left the house. That feature was useless with the gen 1 APP. I haven’t gotten any false warnings for the APP2 though.

Yes. Happening more and more with my AirPods Pro 2. It happens when I leave them at home (which I have saved as a safe location). But today it also happened when they were with me after I left work.

This has been going on for me since it first introduced with the 1st Gen APP and whatever iOS it was then. At least a year. Still going on now with my 2nd Gen APP and an iPhone 14 Pro on 16.1.1.

I even get these notifications when they’re in my ears actively connected to the iPhone and listening to music.

Does Apple even test this crap anymore before they release it to the public? Complete bollocks. I get this multiple times daily.

Edit*** So, for the first time ever, I legit left my APP (2nd Gen) behind, at work today (not a trusted left behind location). An actual real world test of this feature without planning it or anything . I got about five miles away before I realized on my own that I left them behind. No notification, no alert, nothing. This feature is an absolute disgrace. Notified when not left behind but not notified when left behind. The coding is written backwards.

For a few weeks I would get a notification that I left my phone behind, on my phone! It seems to have gone away with the latest update.

Does anyone else see this in Find My?

Did you by any chance toggle Find My Network in the AirPod settings from on to off then back to on? I got this when I toggled that setting and it corrected itself in about a day.

I toggled it to fix the issue and to be honest, I think it may have. Not getting the alerts anymore.

I tried that now so we’ll see. Thanks for the tip.

Ok so you didn’t toggle before you got that message. I got it only after I toggled and I’m guessing it needed some time to catch up or sync to the Find My Network or whatever.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. No I’ve never toggled it until now. But I think I got it fixed with a solution I saw on the apple support forum.
Open AirPods settings with the case open. While holding down the button on the case toggle off Find My Network. Let go of the button when the case beeps. Turn Find My Network back on.
This worked for me.

I couldn't even get the find my toggle to turn off. Just gives me the little rotating loading icon. Then I have to disconnect and reconnect AirPods and its back on. Maybe it worked not sure I usually only get this notification when I leave from work.
