After replacing the first one due to a surprisingly noisy hard drive, and the replacement itself being returned due to having a massive hardware failure, I'm still not using the iMac I ordered over a month ago. :(
Funny thing is, the second iMac had the same rumbling hard drive as the first which I was prepared to put up with. With no more than a few days of usage, it just stopped working.
It's been over a week since the second was returned and the new one hasn't been shipped!

Anyone else share my dismal luck.

Yes, but you're not supposed to admit anything like that on these forums, or you'll get bashed about the head by the fanbois. :-(

LOL I havent gotten mine yet suppose to be delivered via Fed x tomorrow and I will reply on this thread if I have some prob with mine we will see...cross your fingers. Mine is a refurb though and I would hope by it being refurbished that if something was wrong it would have been figured out after being made a refurb.

My 27" imac went for a ram repair under warranty bought as a refurb in May this year on the way back from the repair the screen was smashed and the outer case was dented waiting for my replacement now that is bad luck. I will add that apple have been very good dealing with this problem !

I joined the club...

I thought I'd get a perfect machine but....received my 27 inch Imac on Friday and the firewire port/logic board was DOA. Back to Apple and waiting for a replacement.

Good thing I neglected to mention that it's a week after they put in the order for a replacement and it still hasn't shipped.

Right there with you. I just received word of my 3rd replacement now shipping after reporting the problem (still) 2 weeks ago and shipping back the old replacement #2 last Monday. Got 3 differ end emails with all different shipping timeframes.

I wish someone could have told me a month or so ago that all 21.5" iMacs have crappy displays that have different hues depending on the portion you are looking at--- would have saved me a bunch of grief. Why can't Apple just be honest about the issue? I suppose when they get in really deep trouble with the press they'll just point to the other monitors made and say "they all have issues, we are no worse than the next guy".

Why isn't there a pinned message to the imacforum that simply states "the truthis that iMac monitors are not accurate", then consumers could decide for themselves if they can live with issue or not.

Gave up after 3 2009s.
2010, my 4th (!!!) was perfect.

Mind you these are bto systems so it takes a week to turnaround each one.

Yeah...

Yeah....

My old G5 computer ran into hardware problems in late june necessitating a replacement 6/26.

Got the Corei7 2.8 ghz model which is perfect in every way but but if I'd been able to wait 28 days would have been able to get the 2.93 ghz model.

Oh well.

It shipped the day it was due to arrive and the arrival date has since been pushed back again.
It's funny how quickly I went to order one of the new iMacs and over a month later and I don't have one.

I got the i7 2.93 a few weeks ago... the first one that came just kept crashing (kernel panic error) within an hour of taking out of the box. I got a replacement the next week and it's been working fine.

Ugh, it's frustrating, isn't it? :(
I don't know whether to accept a rumbling hard drive any more, I've waited this long.

I just got back from the Apple store with my second. Core i7 2.93. My problem is with the screen. Most customers would probably not even notice, but as soon as I took mine out of the box, my first mac ever, I was disappointed as I felt the white was not truly white. I thought if I left it alone and tried to get used to it I would be happy. Today is day 12 since I got it so I decided to go in and compare the machine with others in the store.

Yep mine was just a bit more yellow than the other 2 models I had sitting right next to it. Granted it was nothing like the 2009 yellow panel problem but white was just off consistantly on the whole screen. This also throws the blues off slightly. You could see it in an empty finder window. 99% of all customers would not even recognize that it was off. I don't feel im nitpicking because it just bothered me for the last 12 days.

The female manager gave me the whole not every lcd is the same and it could be corrected with calibration speech, but I told her I don't want to spend atleast a hundred bucks for calibration when the white should be white out of the box. It was obvious sitting next to the other 2 monitors. I told her if mine looked like the one sitting next to mine I would be a happy camper. And I'm sure it's not "calibrated" to spec but it just looks right. White was white and not off white or tinged yellow.

They exchanged the computer although she was telling me that they will not exchange another for the same problem. She also told me that they can not keep doing it because they will loose too much money if they did. She said that my macine would be destroyed and I almost laughed in her face. I should have said "No you will ship it to apple they will deem it fine and pass it on to someone else for 10% off. But I didn't feel like arguing.

Anyway my replacement macine is exactly like my other one. Assembled in USA. WD HDD. Pioneer superdrive and..... The same off white problem my other one had. I notice it on the startup screen with the apple. It also has a yellower tinge on the outer half inch of the screen all the way around. I set all 3 machines to pure white background so the difference was obvious if you knew what you were looking at.

I asked the guy if he had any that were made in china, (I know right) because I didn't want one from the same lot my last one came from. He didn't know. I told him, they are assembled in China and the US. I was hoping a chinese one would have the whiter display, just like the ones in the store, but then he started feeding me some crap that they are all made in the US, I told him just forget it. Then another guy told me all the panels are made by samsung in South Korea. I should have had them check the box for a chinese one. These kids in the apple store just regurgitate what they hear from apple or talking to each other all day. I do my research online and am a much more knowledgeable customer than they are used to dealing with because I am on the forums and reading a lot learning from all of your experiences, so I know what to usually expect.

I had no problems with my last one other than the display being off. Now I spent $2200 on a machine and I'm not totally happy because of the display.
I'm into photography (not at a professional level or anything) and the mac is going to be my primary photo machine. The display is the majority of the reason for getting the mac. Yes I know there are better displays!

What do you guys think I should do??

Just noticed that the glass is also about a mm off, where my last machine was perfect too. Gees, who are making these things, their attention to detail is horrible!
