I enabled Messages in iCloud recently for one sole reason: To have my message threads synchronized across my devices, and so that if I delete a message thread on my phone it gets deleted everywhere.

However, this doesn't seem to be working. I receive automated text message alerts through work when systems need attention, and I still have to delete the threads manually on every device.

I'm getting close to turning off iCloud Messages since this was the ONLY reason I even wanted the feature. Is there something I'm missing? Messages actually says "This will be deleted on all devices" but it only deletes on the one device.

are you sure that the incoming and outgoing threads all using the same address for incoming and outgoing messages (address "A)?
or, are some incoming/outgoing messages using addressed to a different address ("B")

although it runs the risk of actually losing messages, i have successfully turned off iCloud messages and then re-turned on iCloud Messages to get it running and completely syncing (this was some time ago; havent had any problems in some time though).

So I've done some more testing, and it's interesting. Other text messages from individual people DO synchronize the delete as they should. But the alert messages don't.

The alerts come in as group MMS messages, addressed to my xxxyyyyzzzz@mms.att.net number and a second "alerts" E-mail. Maybe it has to do with them being treated as group message threads instead of individuals? It's a bit sad because I delete these several times a week. Maybe it's time to just leave it there and just delete the thread when it gets big.

I wanted to update folks on this thread because I've done more testing.

I modified the alert system at my job to E-mail directly to the (phonenumber)@mms.att.net address, instead of a secondary E-mail address I control that forwards to it. Now the alert messages come in as direct MMS instead of group MMS.... and now deleting them synchronizes across devices!

So that narrows down the issue: Group MMS messages do not delete across all devices when you delete on one. I'm not if this is intentional, or if it's a bug. I'm going to submit it to Feedback anyway just in case it's a bug!
